The controversial man was reportedly involved in a shooting with another person on a road in Lake Mary, Florida - where he lives.
There are reports that he was shot at in his truck, with a bullet hole being in the front passenger side window. However, one report states that he was shot in the face while a conflicting report states that the glass from the shooting was actually what injured him.
It is believed that the person who shot at Zimmerman was someone he knew in some capacity. There was also apparently a dispute that led up to this shooting.
A police source has stated:
"We're investigating it, of course. It could have been a road rage incident, or it could have been something more than that. We'll know more as we continue to gather information."
Zimmerman has been transported by an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The shooting is still under investigation.
