Chris Morgan, the co-writer and producer of the new flick, says The Legend of Conan will be a direct sequel to the original Conan the Barbarian movie from 1982.
This means it will bypass the 1984 sequel Conan The Destroyer, as well as completely ignoring the 2011 remake starring Jason Momoa.
"Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the '82 film. When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life - a thief, a warrior, a pirate, a king, a legend - and is now an older man. Think Unforgiven… with a sword-wielding barbarian."
He went on to justify this reasoning by praising the original and its director by saying:
"[John] Milius was a visionary. The goal, the dream, is to live up to his world. To make it worthy and to expand on it in a truthful way that audiences will embrace"
Morgan also stated that even though there have been some delays in production, he expects the film to start up soon after Schwarzenegger finishes his obligations to Terminator: Genisys!
We can't wait! To us, Arnold is the one and only Conan — sorry Jason but you'll always be Khal Drogo to us. (Well, that and a prince of Atlantis soon!)
Are you looking forward to the sequel with the aging action hero?
And what do you think about it ignoring the other two Conans??
