Whoa!

On Friday, Brian Williams sat down with the Today show's Matt Lauer to talk about his scandal and departure from NBC's Nightly News.

This is the first interview the famed anchor has given since his suspension back in February. As we previously reported, the news veteran was suspended from his position after he was caught fabricating stories to viewers. And he revealed it's been "torture" for him.

In his one-on-one, he shared:

"It had to have been ego that made me think I had to be sharper, funnier, quicker than anybody else. I told the story correctly for years, before I told it incorrectly. I was not trying to mislead people, (and) that to me is a huge difference. It came from a bad place. It came from a sloppy choice of words. I told stories that were not true. Over the years, looking back, it is very clear I never intended to. It got mixed up, it got turned around, in my mind.

This came from clearly a bad place, a bad urge inside me. This was clearly ego-driven, a desire to better my role in a story I was already in. That's what I've been tearing apart and unpacking and analyzing."

Wow! What a very honest answer.

The network announced on Thursday that interim anchor, Lester Holt, will permanently take on Williams' former position and the scandalized celebrity will be moved to MSNBC. Yikes!

Though he's grateful for the opportunity to return to the news, Williams has certainly beaten himself up over his past mistakes.

He continued:

"I said things that were wrong. Looking back, with such clarity now, it is so clear to me, I said things that were wrong. I told stories that were wrong. It wasn't from a place where I was trying to use my job and title to mislead. I got it wrong. I own this, and I own up this."

Hmm, very inneresting. We're curious to see how the public responds to his presence back on TV.

As for fabricating stories?! We think he's learned his lesson.

He explained:

"One is too much. Any number north of zero is too many. We can't have it. I can't have that in my life. I can't have that in my work. I can't have that in the company we work for."

Nonetheless, we feel he's sincere and are definitely intrigued to see what he does with his new role. The rest of his interview is scheduled to air this evening on the Nightly News.
