Chris Hemsworth's on-screen body transformations usually requires him to bulk up, but this time he slimmed WAY down!
The Avengers: Age of Ultron star used to eat eight meals a day and hit the gym twice daily to get the godlike body of Thor!
But for Ron Howard's aquatic adventure film In the Heart of the Sea, the 31-year-old ate a 500 calorie diet to get the body of a starving shipwrecked sailor!

In this real life disaster that inspired Moby Dick, Hemsworth is playing first mate Owen Chase, one of the shipmates attacked by a whale in the winter of 1820 who become shipwrecked and battle starvation!
The Aussie actor explained how he and his co-stars Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, and Paul Anderson made quite the diet tribe, saying:
"We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5, 6, 700 calories a day, [for] a good three or four weeks and it's going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we'll be together in our misery."
While Howard is making sure his cast's rapid weight loss is done in a healthy way, all Hemsworth is thinking about is what's on the menu after the diet is finished! He admits:
"I spend more time thinking about food than anything else at the moment… All the bad stuff — pizza, hamburgers, ice cream, anything that is not on the menu — is something you have an obsession with!"
We don't blame him! Check out the actor's slimmed down look when In the Heart of the Sea hits theaters Dec. 11!
