The music outlet looked at the data and trends and determined that the song of the summer — perhaps an unlikely winner — is actually Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix) by OMI!!
Even OMI himself, born Omar Samuel Pasley, was a bit shocked by his crossover success coming to the United States from Jamaica! He said:
"Every artist from Jamaica wants to thrive in the U.S. There are so many great songs that deserve the recognition that 'Cheerleader' has had. I'm just grateful."
OMI is in good company, though; the singer is now the third rookie act in the last four years to win song of the summer with his first Hot 100 hit! He joins 2012's Carly Rae Jepsen (Call Me Maybe) and 2014's Iggy Azalea (Fancy) on the list, so it's surely been a memorable summer for him!
