Pretenders Rocker Chrissie Hynde Goes Off In New Interview Defending Her Controversial Views On Rape & Tells Critics Not To Buy Her 'F*cking Book'

Where do we begin!

For those who don't know, former Pretenders member Chrissie Hynde was sexually assaulted by a motorcycle gang at age 21.

Sadly, when Hynde recalled the incident in an article published last month, the singer made some offense and controversial comments about rape, saying:

"If you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him. If I'm walking around in my underwear and I'm drunk? Who else's fault can it be?"

Obviously people who have experienced rape or know a victim of sexual assault were seriously disturbed and hurt by the remarks. Chrissie, however, has never apologized for the upsetting comments and even went on to defend herself in a promotional interview for her new book, Reckless: My Life as a Pretender.

In fact, the 63-year-old even blew up during the sit down when her past comments about rape were brought up:

"I don't understand why there's — You know what, I don't care what a lot of people want. You know? I'd rather say, just don't buy the f****** book, then, if I've offended someone. Don't listen to my records. Cause I'm only telling you my story, I'm not here trying to advise anyone or tell anyone what to do or tell anyone what to think, and I'm not here as a spokesperson for anyone. I'm just telling my story. So the fact that I've been — you know, it's almost like a lynch mob."

Eek. We could understand the author's anger if she wasn't speaking out on such a sensitive subject. Either way, it's obvious the rocker is misguided.

Chrissie ended the interview by summing up her sad view of the incident, saying:

"I went off with these guys on my own volition and I shouldn't have."

Wow. Honestly this situation is equally maddening and heartbreaking. It's just crazy to think that the public figure was once a symbol of female empowerment.
