Judd Apatow was honored on Sunday at the Rape Foundation Annual Brunch for his advocacy for women, particularly those affected by the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.

During his speech in Beverly Hills, the Trainwreck director said:

"Someone has to stand up for these women and someone in his community needs to call him out and say, 'This is awful, you should be in jail.' We all need to support the victims and tell them, 'We care about you and we believe in you.'"

Over 50 women have accused the 78-year-old of sexual assault. The 47-year-old screenwriter, who is close with one of the former sitcom star's alleged victims, is fed up with the lack of punishment for the comedian:

"He's not the man he presented himself to be and some people think it's wrong to tear him down and tear down his legacy, but he tore down his own legacy. You don't get a free pass because of your good deeds. He still committed crimes. It doesn't matter how funny he was."

The event benefited The Rape Treatment Center and Stuart House at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, a cause that is very important to Apatow, who was introduced by Girls creator Lena Dunham.

She shared:

"My love and admiration for this man is boundless not just because he's a creative dynamo or the funniest person I've ever met, but because he's a tireless advocate for women. That means never ever accepting misogyny, assault or abuse as the status quo in Hollywood or in the real world. We all know that Judd has advocated publicly for America to respect and believe survivors of rape. We know he refuses to follow the path to be silenced."

Taking the stage, the father of two stressed the importance of supporting, and believing, victims of such horrible acts:

"To this very day, very few people with power have gone on-record and said, 'He's an evil person and I stand with his victims' … We all need to speak up when we see something like this is happening and we need to intervene when someone is crossing the line. We need to be role models for respectful relationships – and we all need to support the victims and tell them, 'We care about you.' Because if we don't, people will not come forward and the abuse and the violence will continue."

That's right! We are so happy that a notable influence in Hollywood is taking such a vocal stance on this very important issue.

Cosby's deposition is scheduled for October 9 and will be led by civil-rights attorney Gloria Allred. It will address Judy Huth's civil case, who alleges the comedian sexually abused her when she was 15 years old at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.

As he wrapped his speech, Apatow sent a word of encouragement for the famous lawyer:

"Go get him Gloria! I almost feel bad for him. Gloria get a good night's sleep. I want you to have all of your energy. Actually, I hope you don't sleep so you're really cranky and pissed off."

Hats off to you, Judd! Hopefully justice will be served sooner rather than later.
