The university's chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon — as well as the Alpha Phi sorority — thought it would be fun, funny, or honestly who knows, to throw a bash were everyone dressed in baggy clothing or put on plump lips and padded butts to look like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West.
But it didn't stop there. Some kids took to social media to report that there were certain party goers that painted their faces black!
Obviously this has upset quite a few people.
Beaux Carriere, Sigma Phi Epsilon's spokesperson, said in a statement:
"Building diverse and inclusive communities is core to our identity as an organization, and we have zero tolerance for racist behavior. Sigma Phi Epsilon will continue to work with the university and UCLA community to investigate these claims and hold students accountable for any inappropriate behavior."
UCLA's Media Relations also released a statement reminding students that they can party and celebrate but that "specific choices can cause harm and pain."
As a result of the party, there was a protest scheduled at the Bruin Bear for noon Thursday, and organizers are using #BlackBruinsMatter to help promote racial tolerance.
Do you think the entire party theme is to blame? Or just a few kids being completely ignorant??
