No social media?? Say it ain't so!
Don't let Kate Winslet's role as a tech-savvy Apple exec in the new flick Steve Jobs fool you. In real life, she is all about staying unplugged, especially when it comes to her three kiddos — Mia Honey, 15, Joe Alfie, 11, and little Bear Blaze, almost 2.
The 40-year-old believes there are some serious negative effects of technology — so much so that the Oscar-winner has banned social media and limited Internet usage in her home.
To be fair, we don't think Bear is using up the data plan quite yet…
"She's thinking about what some other person thinks who she doesn't even know … [This has] a huge impact on young women's self-esteem because all they will ever do is design themselves for people to like them. And what comes with that? Eating disorders."
We can definitely see where she's coming from here.
While Ned Rocknroll's wife acknowledges that the Interweb can be "an incredibly powerful educational resource," she said it's being "completely abused" today.
On top of that, the Titanic star says that our society's constant need to share what's going on exploits our private experiences:
"The second you share that memory, that's not your memory anymore. You've given it away."
Instead of focusing on sharing everything publicly, Winslet emphasizes real human interaction with her children. Most importantly, the need for parents to stay in tune with their kid's activity:
"You have to stay in touch with your kids. I think parents are losing control. Especially if they're busy parents. It's really hard to keep your finger on the pulse."
In a world that is so tech-driven, can you imagine a world without blogs, Twitter, or Insta?? We can't!
What do U think, Perezcious readers?? Can U see where Kate is coming from?
