That hiatus came a little sooner than we were anticipating…
Sam Smith has made it pretty clear that he intends on taking a break from music now that his Spectre theme song has hit theaters, but we weren't expecting him to bail so quickly!
The 23-year-old crooner was scheduled to perform at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's fifth annual Art + Film Gala on Saturday night… but canceled at 5 p.m. due to a sudden illness.

A representative for the museum confirmed his sickness in a statement, saying:
"Sam Smith has fallen ill and regretfully was unable to perform tonight at the LACMA Art + Film Gala. He was required to go on vocal rest."
Luckily for everyone attending the event — honoring Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu and artist James Turrell – Eagles rocker Joe Walsh stepped in to perform last minute!
Sam was forced to axe a number of concerts back in April and May, although those cancellations were due to his vocal cord surgery and not the common cold like this time.
Get well soon, Sam! But also — maybe give a little more warning next time…
