It seems like shows have no problem killing off fan favorite characters these days — and Once Upon A Time is no exception!
In the show's winter finale Swansong, Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and his dark minions plotted to take everyone to the underworld so they could rule Storybrooke.

But in true Disney fashion, things took a magical (and dramatic) turn at the last second!
Emma (Jennifer Morrison) had a plan to save the town by channeling the darkness into Excalibur and sacrificing herself — but Hook stole the sword so she couldn't go through with it!
But after Nimue (Caroline Ford) tried to choke Emma in order to stop her from messing up their evil plan, Hook turned against his comrades and had a change of heart!
In one of the most touching moments in the show's history, Hook sucked all the darkness into Excalibur and forced Emma to stab him so she could save herself — along with the rest of the town!
But just because Hook died doesn't mean he's gone for good!
Shortly after, Emma discovered that the dagger wasn't really gone — but Rumplestiltskin had it in his shop, and channeled the darkness from Excalibur into himself to become the ultimate Dark One!

When the show returns for the second half of season five, Emma and the gang will descend into the underworld to save Hook — where she plans to split her heart in two so she can bring him back to Storybrooke!
So it sounds like we may be seeing our favorite pirate again after all!
