And we're at such a loss of words, we're going to let Miz Teigen tell you what went down:
This is absurd!
There has been quite a bit of backlash online revolving around the lack of female Star Wars characters missing from action figure sets.
Social media users have taken to Twitter and Instagram to share pictures of box sets (above) of the characters being sold in a set which somehow leaves out Daisy Ridley's Rey — who's the MAIN CHARACTER in the film!
In fact, Hasbro — one of the toy manufacturers — even includes a generic stormtrooper and a Tie Fighter Pilot but not Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma who's supposed to return for sequels!
"All Star Wars merchandise, including action figures, are selling very well. We are seeing toys based on female characters from the movie fly off shelves."
That's all good and well but doesn't make up for Hasbro's discrimination!
A Target spokesperson, Lee Henderson, is trying to defend the idea as well:
"This feedback was shared with our merchandising team and vendor partners. Although not part of this specific 6-pack, Rey is featured across a broad assortment of products and categories, including the 6" Black Series figures, 3 3/4" figures and vehicles, MicroMachines, LEGO sets and apparel."
Lee went on to say:
"Rey is highly collectible and has solid traction heading into the film's release. She is well represented in our current assortment and selling exceptionally well."
So she's only so difficult to find because she's selling too fast to see? Hmm…
If she's so well "represented" then why do two generic characters take the place of one of the main leads in the movie — especially when both John Boyega's Finn and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron are in the set?!
Richard Gottlieb, a member of the Global Toy Experts tried to explain the absence of female toys in box sets by saying:
"I, of course, have no idea about the decision-making about this product, but I can say that there is, in the toy and movie industry, a long-standing belief that a boy will not go to a ‘girl' movie and that if you put a girl in a boy's toy, boys will not buy it."
We DEFINITELY don't agree with this!
How ridiculous! Even boys who only want to do make-believe battle with action figures would be interested in owning strong female characters like Rey, Captain Phasma, & General Leia!
If you're as bothered by this as we are, make sure you share your outrage online by hashtagging examples with #WheresRey.
