A seventh grader threatened his classmate with a gun.

Yuck.

A seventh-grader in Ohio is facing expulsion this week after an incident where he threatened to shoot and kill a sixth grade classmate — after calling the younger boy a terrorist and a "son of ISIS."

On a bus ride home from school last week in the Vandalia-Butler City School District, the older boy called out the younger one, saying he was responsible for bringing down the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, while calling the Muslim student a "terrorist," a "towel head," and a "son of ISIS."

The older boy also specifically mentioned that he would bring a .40 caliber gun to Morton Middle School the next morning to shoot the Muslim student.

Of course a seventh grader in 2015 was most likely born in 2002 or 2003, so nobody involved in this incident was even alive for the September 11 terror attacks.

But more importantly, the threats — which were recorded on both video and audio on the school bus — were reported to police, who took swift action in interviewing both boys.

Now, school administrators have handed down a ten-day suspension for the older child, and are recommending him for expulsion, to be examined more in a hearing that will be held in the near future.

School superintendent Brad Neavin said of the incident:

"First and foremost in our minds is the safety and security of our students. It is important for our students and their parents to understand we take them at their word when they make these threats. We will treat all threats seriously, taking immediate and decisive action to protect the safety and welfare of our students, staff and community."

The seventh grade boy has also been arrested and charged with ethnic intimidation and aggravated menacing.

He was taken to Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center, where he wrote a letter of apology to the Muslim student.

Do you think expulsion is the right response?
