In an interview with NPR, the president spoke about how the real estate mogul is exploiting the fears of Americans out on the campaign trail:
"Particularly blue-collar men have had a lot of trouble in this new economy, where they are no longer getting the same bargain that they got when they were going to a factory and able to support their families on a single paycheck. You combine those things and it means that there is going to be potential anger, frustration, fear."
The president added that while anger and fear were the wrong emotions to feel in these tough economic times, he did commiserate with the people who so obviously do:
"Some of it is justified but just misdirected. I think somebody like Mr. Trump is taking advantage of that. That's what he's exploiting during the course of his campaign."
Taking advantage is certainly one way to put it…
Being an outright racist and bigot to stir up fears in a hope for votes might be more appropriate, though!
