Backstage after the show, the 26-year-old spoke with ET to explain what went through her head during the awkward incident! She said:
"I wasn't sure what was going on. I didn't expect that to happen at all."
After Harvey corrected his mistake, Wurtzbach said she was hesitant to go up when her name was called, afraid that it was another mistake — so she looked to the crew off stage for a signal to go up!
After being crowned, the real winner didn't know how she felt about being the new Miss Universe until later in the night. She continued:
"I had to ask my [manager] many times like, 'Did I really win? Am I really Miss Universe? Are you going to take the crown from me now?' And they [said], 'No, no, you're really the winner.' "
The winner wanted to reach out to Miss Colombia after she was de-crowned, but said she wasn't able to, adding:
"She was crying and then there was a crowd around her, the girls who were comforting her. I was actually very close to her already, but I decided that maybe it was bad timing to do it now — to apologize to her for what happened. So maybe I'll do that in the future."
The brunette shared a sweet photo with her former flame and penned a heartbreaking caption in his memory.
The late sports star's longtime love reflected on their time together, writing:
"My deepest love goes out to those who saw jose as more than an athlete, but as a passionate, raw human being. The heart break is unbearable. There was so much more to him than anyone could even begin to understand. I'm fortunate enough to have loved and be loved by jose, and his family, for over 3 crazy beautiful years."
Miz Mendoza admitted she will always love the 24-year-old, and told her followers to never take moments with their loved ones for granted, adding:
