Dark and weird can be good, right?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already one of the biggest films of all time.
It's no surprise that with the sci-fi adventure's success, people are HIGHLY anticipating episode VIII, which will be co-written and directed by Looper's Rian Johnson. (Episode IX will be handled by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow.)

While we know that J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, has read the script for the next installment in the new trilogy and said it's so good he wishes he were directing it, there's a lot more information out there from people who are directly working on the films!
Over the past month, we've learned little pieces of information here and there about Episode VIII, as actors like Daisy Ridley opened up while doing press for The Force Awakens on what to expect from the films. The young star said:
"It's very good; very good. Let's see 'VII' first and then we'll talk about 'VIII.'"
Of course the 23-year-old has to stay tight lipped about such a high profile project, she did mention that it will be "darker" than The Force Awakens!
Uhm, YES PLEASE!

On top of that, back in early December, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan — who wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi as well as The Force Awakens, spoke with the LA Times and said:
"These movies will all be so different. ["Episode VIII" director] Rian Johnson is a friend of mine — he's going to make some weird thing. If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in "Star Wars."
Kasdan went on to speak a bit about the difference between filmmakers as well as the exciting news that he'll be writing the Han Solo spinoff movie that should be hitting theaters sometime in 2018:
"You couldn't have three more different people than J.J., Rian and ["Episode IX" director] Colin [Trevorrow]. Those movies will have the "Star Wars" saga as their basis, but everything else will be different. Then Phil Lord and Chris Miller are going to make the Han Solo film and I can't guess what that will be like — and I'm writing it!"
We don't really know any plot details about Episode VIII yet, but some exciting news we do have is that Johnson has already filmed some sequences in Ireland — where the last film left off!
We're definitely going to keep an eye on any upcoming Star Wars news — but in the meantime, we'll be at the theater watching The Force Awakens one more time!
