This is unimaginably tragic.
The team did release a statement on the matter, though (below):
Well, this would be an interesting storyline!!
As we continue to digest the bombshell from the weekend, when Rolling Stone published Sean Penn's interview with notorious drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, people around television are already trying to write it into their shows!
"I'm very interested in the Hollywood connection. I feel like because it just happened yesterday, I'm still processing what it is and what [it] would mean in the Jane world and what that event was, but I feel like we're going to have some specific reaction to that, certainly. Maybe some documentary, somebody interested in the villain of it all. That's pretty funny."
What the… just think of the possibilities!
Some stylized version of El Chapo along side Gina Rodriguez on Jane The Virgin… amazing!!
It'd make sense, too, if only because the show's current villain — Sin Rostro — is pretty much directly based on El Chapo, according to Urman:
"Before [El Chapo] escaped the second time, that was the inspiration. I had seen that article about the escape and about the tunnel system when they got him — that's why we put the tunnels in the hotel for Sin Rostro, so he looms in our minds, certainly."
Yeah, the Penn-Guzman story JUST broke, and it'll be a while before we see it on screen, but it's fun to think about a funny, quirky and smart show like Jane already considering a story line inspired by the real-life drama!
What current TV show would YOU most like to see take on an El Chapo story line?!
