Ever since Marvel Studios was able to bring all of its properties into one shared universe in The Avengers, studios have been trying to duplicate their success.
Warner Bros. is launching DC's Justice League, Paramount is mashing up G.I. Joe with other toys, and Universal has… monsters.
Well, their shared Classic Monsters universe just got a big shot in the arm as Tom Cruise has officially signed on for the reboot of The Mummy, which has been moved to a release date of June 9, 2017 to accommodate his schedule.
Frankly, we're scratching our heads at the idea of an Avengers-style team-up of classic movie monsters. But Universal has been trying for a couple years to get the idea off the ground.
And last year, the studio made record profits with major hits 50 Shades Of Grey, Furious 7, Jurassic World, Straight Outta Compton, and Trainwreck all beating box office expectations.
So now that they can back trucks full of money up to the houses of the biggest stars in the world, this Universal Cinematic Universe is happening.
Whether anyone wants it or not…
