Halle Berry Weighs In On The 'Heartbreaking' Lack Of Diversity In This Year's Oscar Nominees!

Halle sounds off on #OscarsSoWhite!

Halle Berry isn't staying silent anymore.

The lack of diversity in this year's Oscar nominations has got a lot of actors upset. Jada Pinkett Smith revealed she will be boycotting the ceremony and host Chris Rock is re-writing his script to address the controversy.

And now, the 49-year-old is also joining in on the conversation.

At the 2016 Makers Conference on Tuesday, the acclaimed actress addressed the issue while speaking to reporters. The brunette beauty remembered how excited she was when she won Best Actress for Monsters Ball back in 2002, because she believed it meant more opportunities for non-white actors in the future.

She explained:

"I believed that in that moment, that when I said [in my acceptance speech], 'The door tonight has been opened,' I believed that with every bone in my body that this was going to incite change because this door, this barrier, had been broken."

But, in light of this year's nods, the momma-of-two admitted she's incredibly disappointed, saying:

"And to sit here almost 15 years later, and knowing that another woman of color has not walked through that door, is heartbreaking. It's heartbreaking because I thought that moment was bigger than me. It's heartbreaking to start to think maybe it wasn't bigger than me. Maybe it wasn't. And I so desperately felt like it was."

Since that year, only three African-American women have been nominated for the Best Actress honor, but none of them won.

The gorgeous gal also expressed that the problem is so much bigger than just this one awards show, and actually exists throughout the industry, adding:

"It's really about truth telling. And as filmmakers and as actors, we have a responsibility to tell the truth. And the films, I think, that are coming out of Hollywood aren't truthful. The reason they're not truthful, these days, is that they're not really depicting the importance and the involvement and the participation of people of color in our American culture."

We're glad Halle is making her voice heard on this very troubling issue, and we hope that next year's nominations are different.
