According to reports, a London hospital contacted police on Monday night about a patient of theirs who was missing — and just hours later, authorities found the man at the gates of Kensington Palace, home of the royal family.
After behaving suspiciously for some time, the man lit himself on fire, and by the time emergency crews were in reach to assist him, it was too late — the man ("in his forties") was pronounced dead shortly before 4 a.m. GMT.
At the very least, though, there is one calming piece of information — London police do not believe there is a greater threat to the public here, telling BBC News:
"This incident is not being treated as terrorist-related."
Well that's a relief, we suppose.
Still… bizarre and sad, and our thoughts go out to the man's family at this time.
It's hard to imagine the Oscars without its jaw-dropping ending!
As you know, La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner of the Best Picture award when it was really Moonlight that won! The shocking moment led to an awkward series of events, with even Jimmy Kimmel cutting in to smooth everything over.
