Self-Proclaimed 'Cyber-Security Legend' John McAfee Offers To Help The FBI Hack Terrorist's iPhone So Apple Doesn't Have To! See What He Said!

John McAfee is a cybersecurity expert, a presidential candidate for the Libertarian party, and apparently an overall badass.

And if the government takes his offer, the antivirus software founder and his rag-tag team of hackers will help the FBI out of a tough pickle!

Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company would refuse to comply with a court order to help the FBI unlock an iPhone used by one of the terrorists behind the San Bernardino mass shooting last December.

In a statement, Cook explained that creating the technology to bypass their products' security features would be "too dangerous to create" — because it there would be no way to guarantee control over who uses the virtual "back door."

And as it started to look like Apple was about to enter an epic legal battle with the FBI over the issue, McAfee might have just offered the government its own back door solution.

In an op-ed article published on Business Insider, the 70-year-old computer programmer said that the FBI wouldn't even need to ask for Apple's help if it hired better hackers!

McAfee explained that he works with "the best hackers on the planet," and claims that none of those "prodigies" will be found working with the FBI, writing:

"Why do the best hackers on the planet not work for the FBI? Because the FBI will not hire anyone with a 24-inch purple mohawk, 10-gauge ear piercings, and a tattooed face who demands to smoke weed while working and won't work for less than a half-million dollars a year. But you bet your ass that the Chinese and Russians are hiring similar people with similar demands and have been for many years. It's why we are decades behind in the cyber race."

We're no security experts, but he makes a good point!

After defending Apple's firm stance, the candidate offered his services to the FBI — proposing that he and his crack team will decrypt the information on Syed Rizwan Farook's phone!

He continued:

"So here is my offer to the FBI. I will, free of charge, decrypt the information on the San Bernardino phone, with my team. We will primarily use social engineering, and it will take us three weeks. If you accept my offer, then you will not need to ask Apple to place a back door in its product, which will be the beginning of the end of America."

Interesting that he's tryin gto help WHILE agreeing with Apple. We're not sure what the FBI's response will be, but it doesn't sound like there's a downside here.

Do YOU think the FBI should take up McAfee on his offer?
