Hmm... Where have we heard this before...
This is disgraceful!
Anohni is the first transgender performer nominated for an Oscar for co-writing the song Manta Ray from the film Racing Extinction.
The Academy Award nominee wrote Manta Ray under the name Antony Hegarty and is most widely known as the singer for the indie group Antony and the Johnsons.
So you would think with a popular song that's nominated for an Oscar, Anohni would be pretty happy, right?
That's because the singer is pissed over her treatment by the Academy for being only one of two of the five nominated artists for Best Original Song that was not asked to perform at the live event — David Lang won't be performing Simple Song #3 from Youth either.
The transgender woman took to Facebook to reveal that she's going to boycott the Oscars and gives a long detailed explanation of her feelings saying:
Anohni makes some very great points and we love that she's looking at the larger picture and doesn't believe her exclusion has anything to do with being transgender.
However, we are absolutely DISGUSTED that the Academy isn't making time for ALL the artists to perform due to "time constraints."
Meanwhile we're sure to see at least two TERRIBLE comedy sketches that flop horribly, as we do every year…
What do you think of the artist's decision to boycott Sunday's award show?
