A New Orleans federal judge has done what several people have sought to do for quite some time — sentence Robert Durst, the star of the hit HBO documentary The Jinx, to prison!
U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt approved the sentence that will send the Robert to prison for 85 months and an additional three years of supervised released, all because of a weapons possession charge!
The sentence was part of a plea deal that was reached in February on the felony charge and the 73-year-old also had to pay $5,000 fine as well as a $100 special assessment.
The convict was arrested after authorities found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson during a search of Durst's New Orleans hotel room in March 2015 thanks to an arrest warrant for the Berman killing. Since Robert was previously convicted of several felonies, he was indicted in the Eastern District of Louisiana on April 10, 2015 as a result of possessing a firearm.
Robert rose to fame through the hit HBO documentary called The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst that aired in the spring of 2015! The doc mainly focused on Durst's suspected involvement in the disappearance of his wife, Kathy, as well as the 2000 killing of Susan. The most shocking moment in the series came when the suspected murderer leaves an on-camera interview to use a washroom, but leaves his mic on so he can be overheard saying:
"What the hell did I do? Killed 'em all, of course."
With Robert's shady past, we're sure several people feel that the prison sentence is long overdue, but is it enough?! Sound off in the comments (below)!
