It's hard to imagine the Oscars without its jaw-dropping ending!
Sadly, this meant the comedian couldn't close the show with
A Republican who has a history of voting against gay rights but also has a history of molesting teenage boys? No such thing…
Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert was sentenced to 15 months in prison on Wednesday after admitting to molesting four teenage boys back when he was a wrestling coach at Yorkville Community Unit School District 115 in Illinois between 1965 and 1981.
Unfortunately, the 74-year-old's crimes had far surpassed the statute of limitations, but luckily U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin was able to convict Dennis for a similar offense in a Chicago court.
Apparently, the Republican had been contacted by the FBI in 2015 as to why he had been withdrawing large amounts of money when he claimed he was being blackmailed by a person only identified as "Individual A."
Following Dennis' admission that he had in fact touched his students inappropriately, Judge Durkin proceeded to call him a "serial child molester" and sentenced him to 15 months for lying to authorities about the money.
Due to a stroke in November of 2015, Hastert is expected to surrender himself to a penitentiary's medical facility at some point in time, but it's currently unclear when that will be.
What shocks us most about this case is that for eight years, the third most powerful man in America was secretly a criminal who got away with sexually assaulting children who looked up to him…
We're just glad his victims and their families have finally seen some sort of justice.
