While we thought Madonna's Met Gala look was one of the worst this year, it wasn't because we were being age-ist.
BUTT, some haters we a tad more discriminatory. So, on Wednesday, the icon took to Instagram to explain that those controversial comments were exactly what she was trying to fight when she donned this booty-baring Givenchy piece.
Photos: The 2016 Met Gala's Sexiest & Most Skintillating Looks!
The 57-year-old shared a poignant post online about the SKINtillating outfit, explaining that the revealing dress was designed to make a fashion AND political statement, writing in the caption:
"We have fought and continue to fight for civil rights and gay rights around the world. When it comes to Women's rights we are still in the dark ages. My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement. The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society. I have never thought in a limited way and I'm not going to start."
Well said, girl!
And while the style choice landed Her Madgesty on our Worst Dressed list, we'd like to clarify that we had NO problem with her boobs or her butt hanging out!
We just felt like the different design didn't feel like a typical Madonna look.
Anyway, the pop powerhouse concluded her caption with a call to action about gender equality, adding:
"We cannot effect change unless we are willing to take risks By being fearless and By taking the road leas traveled by. Thats how we change history. If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice. I'm not afraid to pave the way for all the girls behind me‼️ As Nina Simone once said, the definition of freedom is being fearless. I remain Unapologetic and a Rebel ❤️ in this life and all the others. Join my fight for Gender. Equality! 🙏🏻"
There you have it, royal subjects. The Queen of Pop has spoken!
And even though we didn't love her outfit, we do love that she's using it — and the backlash — to start this important conversation!
She even reached out to other famous females — like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and many more — by tagging them in the photo, probably encouraging them to join her feminist fight!
Ch-ch-check out her full post (below)!
Way to slay, girl!
