A high school in Rancho Cucamonga, California is currently under investigation after a photo of a student wearing a hijab in the yearbook was incorrectly labeled as "Isis Phillips"!
The Muslim student — who is not named Isis, but has chosen to keep her identity a secret out of fear for her safety — and her family are outraged that Los Osos High School would allow such racism to make it to print.
Luckily for the victim, the Greater Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) is already looking into the offense.
In fact, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush issued a press release on Sunday condemning the yearbook's racially charged use of ISIS while referring to a Muslim student, saying:
"We join with the family in their concern about a possible bias motive for this incident and in their deep concern for their daughter's safety as a result of being falsely labeled as a member of a terrorist group. No student should have to face the humiliation of being associated with a group as reprehensible as ISIS."
Similarly, Principal Susan Petrocelli seems to be regretful of the mistake, saying:
LOHS is taking every step possible to correct & investigate a regrettable misprint discovered in the yearbook. We sincerely apologize.

In the school's defense, there reportedly was another student named Isis Phillips enrolled at one point in the year… so while the misprint is still racist, it doesn't sound like it was an intentional hate crime.
Still, this is obviously a huge mistake on the school's part, and we hope no one tries to harm the student or her family based on their non-existent connection to ISIS.
How do U think Los Osos High School should correct the situation??
