On Thursday, the Queer Eye For the Straight Guy alum caught wind of a TMZ article he felt was making fun of his "crunchy and perhaps a bit wild" looks, thus opening the door for him to receive bullying from others online. Shame.
ICYMI: The picture in question was a selfie taken on his Tennessee farm (above), which the outlet called "ironic."
"Anyone that knows me well has heard me say I found fame dehumanizing. Last week I posted a pic of me on my new land in TN looking crunchy and perhaps a bit wild. Some person at TMZ felt fine using that pic to insult me, which of course invited others to further insult me. Truth is that if I had to do it all over again, I would be tempted to take a pass. This kinda hurt my feelings truth be told. But enough young men and women have reached out to me over the years to say that having an out gay man on TV helped them in their journey. Because of those folks and their generous feedback, it was worth it. But for the record, these days my priorities are different than they were 13 years ago and if people want to diss me for being a bit crunchy, that's on them."
