R.I.P.

So sad.

Last week, the pit bull named Scout — whose claim to fame was his uncanny ability to balance almost anything on his head — passed away at 12 years old.

The viral sensation from Stuff On Scout's Head had been pretty sick lately, battling diabetes, suffering from seizures, and even had a tumor removed.

On Tuesday, his owner, Jen Gillen, took to Instagram to reveal that her precious pup had passed, posting an adorable image of the sweet pooch, and broke the sad news in a lengthy caption, writing:

"Last Wednesday after a tough year so far, Scout has passed peacefully. It's taken a week for me to find the right wording to break the news and I don't even think this does him justice. I wish you all could have given him a hug as a final goodbye, there would have been a line as far as the eye could see - I swear he was fuelled through the last few months by love entirely."

She continued to detail his recent health struggles, adding:

"He had recently been recovering fantastic and then suddenly he wasn't doing well at all and he just didn't have the same fight in him as before; he had come through some crazy circumstances all the while being fantastic, alerting staff in the hospital about other dogs, bouncing back from surgery hours later to go for a walk, shaking out his ear surgery buttons after the vet said to keep them in a bit longer, being the most behaved gentleman and a strong Viking of a pup this whole time and STILL loved seeing all his friends in the vet up until the very last day."

The grieving pet owner went on to honor her longtime companion and the memories they made together, saying:

"Without Scout I wouldn't have had the chance to get to know so many of you and for that alone I am so thankful. He had a knack for bringing people together. Celebrate Scout's life by saving one just like him; speak out about how barbaric and outdated Breed Specific Legislations are; kiss your Pitties on their noses for us today; don't judge a dog by their breed; recognize dogs up for adoption aren't broken! I could have never met a more perfect dog for me. He was a poster dog for what I believed in, together we made it possible to give back to causes I believed so strongly in. I wouldn't be in such a good shape today if I didn't have such an amazing crew of friends supporting me. It was the best little send off a Viking could have asked for. 💖"

Miz Gillen also took to the photo-sharing site to thank everyone for their kind words after her sad loss, posting:

She even shared a funny photo from her furry friend's old age:

Are hearts go out to Jen, and we'll miss the digital delight Scout brought into our lives.
