Like other countries hosting the Olympics, Rio de Janeiro will kick off the 2016 Summer Games with an opening ceremony that reflects the country.
But this year's opening ceremony, which will be watched by an estimated 900 million viewers on Friday night, will be a brutal depiction on life in Rio!
So brutal that supermodel Gisele Bündchen will apparently be ROBBED in the middle of the opening ceremony!
Three thousand special guests were invited to watch the dress rehearsal of the extravagant show on Sunday in the historic Maracana stadium — and viewers were quick to reveal that the 3-hour presentation takes a few dark turns.
Though ceremony director Fernando Meirelles shines a spotlight on the best of Brazil, he will also make sure to address the country's social problems.
According to the crowd, the show will trace the history of Brazil, it's music and contribution to the world — starting with a call for peace, then moving through Brazil's jungles, and ending in its slums.
During the section on the urbanization of the country, viewers will hear a song describing Brazil's high number of road accident victims — then Gisele will strut down the catwalk before she will be held up by an actor who mugs her!
After the mugging, the assailant will be chased around the stadium and eventually be caught by police officers, to show that good will triumph over evil.
Wow! This is sure an interesting direction to take the opening ceremony. We think it's a bold move to shed light on all aspects of the country. Though various events leading up to the Olympics may have already done that…
