As you may have heard, a 73-year-old woman was shot and killed by police during a "Shoot/Don't Shoot" training exercise in Punta Gorda, Florida on Tuesday night.
Mary Knowlton had been randomly selected to act as a cop during a pretend standoff for the community event when "bad guy" Officer Lee Coel fired two live rounds into the retired librarian, killing her before she could get to the hospital.
By all accounts, this was just an unfortunate accident — the prop gun had somehow been loaded with real ammunition as opposed to blanks — but it does not help the situation that Lee has a pretty questionable history in law enforcement.
Apparently, before working with the Punta Gorda Police Department, the 28-year-old was forced to resign from Florida's Miramar Police Department after "failing to satisfactorily complete an agency field training program."
But that's not even Officer Coel's worst offense — he was actually involved in a case of police brutality last October when he used excessive force on 25-year-old Richard Schumacher while arresting him for not using a headlight on his bicycle…
To make matters even worse, Mary's death could have been avoided because Richard's attorney Scott Weinberg reportedly told the department that Lee was a ticking time bomb, saying:
"I was demanding that he be fired months ago, and I was warning people he was going to kill somebody."
Unfortunately, no one took Scott's warnings seriously — he didn't even get in trouble for letting his K-9 maul the innocent man — and now the PGPD has a needless death on their hands.

The late sports star's longtime love reflected on their time together, writing:
"My deepest love goes out to those who saw jose as more than an athlete, but as a passionate, raw human being. The heart break is unbearable. There was so much more to him than anyone could even begin to understand. I'm fortunate enough to have loved and be loved by jose, and his family, for over 3 crazy beautiful years."
Miz Mendoza admitted she will always love the 24-year-old, and told her followers to never take moments with their loved ones for granted, adding:
