He's a military man, so he knows how to deal with adversity, but that doesn't mean Luke Pell is happy about it.
The final four finisher on last season's run of The Bachelorette, Pell decided against doing Bachelor In Paradise this summer because producers were talking him up as the man to be America's next Bachelor.
As we reported yesterday, though, that all blew up in his face when ABC made a last-minute switch and picked well-known Nick Viall to be the man for the job.

Now, Pell is speaking out about that decision — and how it was handled by the network — and he is understandably upset about having been picked over in favor of Nick:
"I don't have a problem with it if they think that they have a better candidate for the show, that's fine. But it's the way that it was handled. Asking me to be genuine and authentic and open and vulnerable… and then I don't get genuine and authentic in return from the organization."
Sounds like maybe we shouldn't expect Luke to be a part of future spin-offs like BiP?!
He went on, too, confirming how late in the game ABC actually made their decision (below):
"The decision was made apparently on Sunday, and I was supposed to fly to L.A. Monday and already had all my bags packed. They called me Sunday night and said it wasn't me. I didn't know who the Bachelor was—I found out with the rest of America. I'm fine, I'm content. It's the same as how I left The Bachelorette, unexpectedly. I felt like I didn't deserve that."
Always the bridesmaid, never the
bachelor bride… or something? Ha!!

Seriously, though, Pell did kind of get the short end of the stick here, but Nick should make a fine Bachelor and soon it'll all be gone and forgotten.
As for his own future, Pell sounds like he's planning on keeping busy, albeit in a slightly less public arena:
"I'm so happy to be back in Nashville. I have a couple entrepreneurial ventures and non-profits I'm working with. I'm also a songwriter. I love what I do, and I loved it before I was ever cast on The Bachelorette. I'm excited, and I'm glad I have so many good friends in Nashville. I'm excited for what the future holds."
That snub, though… who knows if we'll see Luke again at future Bachelor-related specials and events?!
