(Srsly, what was with that sniffling??)
Eat, Pray, Love Author Elizabeth Gilbert Is Divorcing Her Husband Because She's In Love With Her Female Best Friend!
Elizabeth Gilbert is sharing a HUGE secret.
On Wednesday, the Eat, Pray, Love author took to Facebook to reveal that her best friend, Rayya Elias, was diagnosed with both pancreatic and liver cancer in the spring.
The blonde shared this photo with her close confidante (above), and revealed how she reacted to the scary news, writing in the caption:
"In the moment I first learned of Rayya's diagnosis, a trap door opened at the bottom of my heart (a trap door I didn't even know was there) and my entire existence fell straight through that door. From that moment forward, everything became about HER. I cancelled everything in my life that could be cancelled, and I went straight to her side, where I have been ever since."
"Death — or the prospect of death — has a way of clearing away everything that is not real, and in that space of stark and utter realness, I was faced with this truth: I do not merely love Rayya; I am in love with Rayya. And I have no more time for denying that truth. The thought of someday sitting in a hospital room with her, holding her hand and watching her slide away, without ever having let her (or myself!) know the extent of my true feelings for her…well, that thought was unthinkable."
The 47-year-old even admitted she ended her almost-ten-year marriage with Jose Nunes because of her newly discovered feelings for Rayya, saying:
"For those of you who are doing the math here, and who are wondering if this situation is why my marriage came to an end this spring, the simple answer is yes."
The Connecticut native also revealed that Rayya feels the same way, and clarified their current relationship status:
"So. Here is where we stand now: Rayya and I are together. I love her, and she loves me. I'm walking through this cancer journey with her, not only as her friend, but as her partner. I am exactly where I need to be — the only place I can be."
Miz Gilbert explained she didn't come forward about this earlier because she, her lady love, and their families needed time to process such big news privately.
Elizabeth stressed that she and her partner ultimately decided to go public with their announcement because she lives her life in "truth and transparency," and wants to be able to be able to make appearances with the brunette without having to hide the true nature of their relationship.
She concluded by encouraging her followers to refrain from sending her tips, advice, and stories about cancer treatment, instead asking them for love.
