The Oscars need to do something to liven up the show — and producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd, tasked with putting together the 89th event next February, already seem to know it!
The pair is already in the planning stages of the show, which will air on ABC on February 26, 2017, but they recognize that after this year's very, very low ratings, something has to change!

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, De Luca and Todd dished a LOT about what they expect will change this coming year, and even though they are still looking very early at how to make that happen, they are dropping hints left and right!
One of the biggest?? A shorter show!!!
De Luca spoke about that specifically:
"Get it done in as short amount of time as possible, have as many laughs as possible, have as much glamour and Hollywood style as possible, and let people have a good time. In and out. Nobody gets hurt. Just fun."

They haven't yet found a theme for the show itself, but when looking at the schedule, and the awards, that'll come together soon.
De Luca said:
"We're in the early stages of coming up with themes, an overarching vision. Obviously, the show is meant to recognize excellence in each category and hand out awards, so whatever you do has to work around that. Right now, we're kind of brainstorming."
And Todd added:
"We're still at a broad-strokes place — theme, inspiration. We really want to celebrate film on that night. How the movies make you feel. We're very macro right now, finding our way. But it comes from a love of film and a love of the show."
OK, cool, cool, but can we talk about hosts?!
After all, Todd is the President of Pearl Street Films, which is Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company — which could maaaaaaaybe mean the duo might be up for hosting the Oscars in '17???

Todd dished on that, saying:
"I just got a bunch of old shows and went back and looked at how young they were that year they won for Good Will Hunting. They're really excited and supportive of me doing it, so I'm sure I'll enlist them in some creative way or another. I doubt they'll be hosting it, though."
Sure would make for an interesting night!!!
Regardless, we will all find out very soon — and before we know it, the Oscars will be here!
What do U think, Perezcious readers?! Who would U like to see host the Oscars in 2017??
