Valerie Dowden Wells — who is known for her family's appearance on the 2012 reality TV show Bayou Billionaires — was killed in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday.
Police say the 47-year-old was shot several times as she sat in her car close to a McDonald's parking lot in Shreveport, Louisiana around 4 p.m.
Sgt. Rod Johnson tells People that Wells was shot by Robert Paul Gaddy, who later turned the gun on himself and died at a local hospital.
"We know they had a relationship of some type, but I can't tell you if they were friends having a dispute or formerly intimate. We simply don't know at this moment. We have some guesses, but we'd like to back that up with hard facts."
The executive producer of the CMT show, Brian Flanagan, shares with the outlet:
"Gaddy is a man [Wells] knew from high school who she recently started dating."
Flanagan reveals that he received a text from Wells' mother Kitten Dowden this morning:
"It's complete heartbreak. [The family] is not doing well."
Adding of the late single mother-of-three, who worked at the public defender's office in Mansfield:
"She was a sweetheart. Valerie suffered from MS [multiple sclerosis], but she was incredibly strong. She was ill for a very long time but worked through it. She always had a smile on her face. She was sunshine walking through a room, and it's incredibly sad news."
Her funeral service will reportedly be held on Friday at noon.
Our deepest condolences to the entire Wells family. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
