The White House is walking back on Donald Trump's baseless claims that Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 election.

On Monday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the President wasn't actually referring to wiretapping when he tweeted about, in quotes, getting his "wires tapped."

The breathing-wad-of-gum told press:

"I think there's no question that the Obama administration, that there were actions about surveillance and other activities that occurred in the 2016 election. The President used the word wiretaps in quotes to mean, broadly, surveillance and other activities."

That's right, he could've been spied on in other ways — like through a microwave!

Wiretapping is a specifically defined surveillance activity that involves tapping into "a telephone or telegram wire in order to get information," but we're sure Merriam-Webster will school Trump's administration shortly with the actual definition.

Spicer added that Trump was NOT accusing Obama of personally surveilling, but instead referring to his administration when tweeting that his predecessor was a "bad (or sick!) guy."

Ugh, will someone plz tell these people how using "quotes" works?
