The thought of children being raised by an alleged domestic abuser is pretty scary.
Which is why Mel B made one major change to her divorce filing: she does NOT want to share joint custody with Stephen Belafonte.
Since filing for a divorce last month, the Spice Girl has made some explosive accusations about her ex, which include domestic violence, sexual exploitation, and an illegal firearms scandal.
And while she endured a lot of trauma, the America's Got Talent judge apparently wasn't privy to all of Belafonte's skeletons!
EXCLUSIVE: Melanie C Talks To Perez About Scary's Divorce Drama!
Originally, Mel said she wanted joint legal and physical custody over the her three children — but has since learned other unforgivable factors that made her reconsider.
TMZ sources say Scary Spice had no idea Belafonte had a conviction for domestic violence involving another baby mama, and wasn't aware the conviction made it illegal for him to posses a gun.
Mel reportedly knew Stephen had a gun — though, given his alleged repeated abuse, she wasn't enthusiastic about it — but after finding out he was prohibited to own a firearm, she decided to change her custody tune.

Now, after getting a temporary restraining order that prohibits Belafonte from any contact with her children, the singer will head back to court and make the restraining order permanent.
Insiders say that Mel might be okay with granting Stephen monitored visits with their 5-year-old child Madison down the line, but she doesn't want the alleged abuser anywhere near her 2 other kids: 10-year-old Angel, whose father is Eddie Murphy, and 18-year-old Phoenix, from another marriage.
Belafonte has asked for joint legal and physical custody of Madison, so we'll see how this all pans out in court.
