aaron hernandez murder conviction to be vacated

Aaron Hernandez may've technically died an innocent man.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the former New England Patriots tight end's murder conviction will likely be dismissed posthumously because of a legal rule known as "abatement." Wait, seriously?

In case you forgot, the ex-NFL star was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after he was convicted in 2015 for murdering Odin Lloyd. Sadly, the scandalized football player took his own life on April 19 as he hanged himself in his prison cell.

Shockingly, it's Aaron's apparent suicide which will clear his name. It's said a court will vacate Hernandez's conviction because his appeal was pending at the time of his death. Professor Rosanna Cavallaro of Suffolk University told CNN:

"The idea is that if an appeal hasn't happened, there's a chance that a conviction has an error in it. Rather than have someone with that incomplete decision that they're guilty, the state chooses instead to say that conviction is abated — as if it never had happened."

We can only imagine that many people have mixed feelings about this update…
