Katy Perry Gets Candid About Ditching Dr. Luke, Hillary Clinton's Loss, & How Donald Trump's Election Re-Triggered Her 'Full Sexual Liberation'!

Katy Perry is all too familiar with men who don't see women as equal.

Which is why the pop star says she experienced a "full sexual liberation" after the election of Donald Trump!

It's impossible not to notice the songstress has make an effort to rebrand herself from the sugary, Teenage Dream-era Perry — she's got a different look, a different sound, and a purportedly "woke" mindset.

Well, we apparently have POTUS to thank for this "new and improved" Katy Kat!

In an interview with The New York Times, the Chained to the Rhythm singer says had an awakening on election night linked to the misogyny of her upbringing, explaining:

"The reality is that I was retriggered on the election. I was retriggered by a big male that didn't see women as equal. And that had been, unfortunately, a common theme in my upbringing."

For those who don't know, the singer — born as Katheryn Hudson — was raised in a strict religious home with her parents working as Pentecostal pastors.

While her parents still don't approve of everything the sexy star does, Katy said the brood is on good terms and in family group therapy, adding:

"I went to that dark place that I had been avoiding, and I dug out the mold. It was not fun, but I did that — I'm still doing that."

And by exploring this dark place, the 32-year-old says she came out feeling "very empowered" and "liberated" in every way, continuing:

"I feel very empowered, extremely liberated, liberated from the conditioning of the way I used to think, spiritually liberated, politically liberated, sexually liberated, liberated from things that don't serve me."

Like long hair and feuds with fellow pop stars, apparently!

One person who also wasn't serving Katy was her longtime collaborator Dr. Luke, who she did not work with at all on her new album Witness. "I had to leave the nest," she said of the first time departure.

As for other "constructs" that don't serve the singer? Awards. Katy says music accolades don't represent the audience, proclaiming:

"All the awards shows are fake, and all the awards that I've won are fake. They're constructs."

We guess she won't be showing up to the Grammys next year?

One thing that wasn't fake was the "old" Katy Perry, who the "new" Katy claims is still alive and part of her. She explained:

"I didn't kill her, because I love her, and she is exactly what I had to do then. And I'm not a con artist, I didn't con people, like, that was just me. And this is me now."

Good to know!

Despite seeming wiser (and more forgiving) than ever before, the performer admits she still has a lot of learning to do:

"Every day when I think I know something, the universe shows me that I need to learn another lesson. So I stand here today, more so than any other day, saying I know nothing. I literally know nothing."

One evening in particular that gave her this realization was election night, which Katy described was "traumatizing" at Hillary Clinton's rally that never turned into the celebration it was supposed to be:

"It was a revelation, it was a reckoning… [After Trump won, Lady] GaGa and I [were] just looking at each other, and being like, fuck it, we need to touch each other."

Sexual liberation triggered. Thanks, Trump!
