Fox’s Idol Gives Back show was the highest rated program on Wednesday. However, it received lower ratings this year than it did during its debut last year.
Much lower!
Producers even had A-List performances lined up, such as Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Fergie. But, not even that, nor Brad Pitt‘s appearance helped with the ratings.
The show went down 34% among adult viewers in ages 18-49.
Last year’s show was marked as a regular show in which contestants would be eliminated at the end, but they were surprised when elimination was moved for the next night. This year’s show was marked as a “special” with no elimination involved.
Maybe that had something to do with it?
And, the promised appearances by the presidential candidates were not included. It will be aired tonight instead.
The benefit show yesterday helped to raise at least $22 million, according to Billboard. Fox is stating that this year’s donations will be higher than that amount and will release the final number later tonight.
Has Idol lost it’s touch?
