I hope to God no one tries to take away my right to parent my children the way I feel is right. If it was OBVIOUS the kid was transgender, that is one thing. But to have someone tell me that my boy would be missing out on something if I didn't promote or allow him to wear a tutu can suck my balls. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You know, Perez sure jumps on the podium anytime anyone has anything to say, real or imagined, against gays…I wish he would use his fame to support other issues as well. Don't be like the Al Sharpton for the gays….no one will ever take you seriously.

This isn't like telling your child to not drink soda ,etc. This is a clear gender issue and she is the reasons gender divides are perpetuated in this country and why a male must oppress women/gays in order to avoid being called a wussy/gay/etc. Its ridiculous. Yea, she is entitled to her own opinion, but shes an idiot and spreading a view to millions of people that is misinformed and clearly sexist.

    105

sherri is ignorant and homophobic bottom line. anyone of you who agree with her is also ignorant and homophobic. its about excepting a child for who they are. if you're son wants to where a dress and you tell him no, you aren't letting your child be who they are, you are forcing them to be something they are not. and that's BULL that she would accept her son if he was gay later on, because no matter what gender indentity excuses everyone is making, the real reason is that you are all HOMOPHOBIC. feeble-minded insolent dolts you are!

I see nothing wrong with letting little boys wear dresses. In fact I bought a Cinderella Princess Dress for my 5 year old son for Christmas. I also bought him some Barbie panties that he wanted. And to put in his stocking I bought him some lipstick and makeup. He will look so cute !
    Yeh, right. LMFAO !!

I agree with her, so what? I wouldn't want my 7 year old son running around in a freakin' dress either.

    111

For an adult woman who still believes the world is flat, and that Jesus predated dinosaurs, I wouldn't give much credence to any of her opinions. Clearly, Barbara & Bill Geddes make a "mistake" with Sherri Sheppard (whose educational level could be compared to that of a first semester kindergartener) and, from what I hear, they are already in damage control talks.

  13. Chantel says – reply to this

    113

She may be one of the dumbest big blobs of fat on the earth. World is flat, Greeks threw Christians to the lions, Christian were before the Greeks, Jesus was not Jewish and now a child must conform to who she is. She is a stupid cow and needs to be taken off TV. She is an insult to strong, black woman. She sets back the civil rights movement 100 years.

    116

ugh people get it so confused! If my child was TRANSGENDERED, that would mean my baby believes with his/her whole heart and soul that he/she is supposed to be of the opposite sex. Like feeling like they were born in the wrong person's body. How would you feel if you were born believing with every fiber of your being that God had made a mistake and you should be in another gender's body? My baby wouldn't be able to help that, and I would need to be there for support. A lot of people think that TRANSGENDERED and TRANSVESTITES are one in the same, but they are not. Even transvestites feel deeply compelled to dress the way they do- again, something that cannot be helped- it is something one is born with. But tansgendered and transvestites are two very different entities. …. And yes, Barbara Walters is a bitch.

Sherri is the best thing that's happened to The View. It was her view, right? She's the real deal. Get rid of Barbara…I'm embarrassed for her. Keep Elizabeth at home with her kids. She is a bore.

  21. Dido says – reply to this

    121

The reason we have inequality between Males and Females is not because we are genetically different but because as a society we instill gender roles.

The only way to combat inequality is to not force children into ridged gender roles which they may or may not feel inclined to follow.

Therefore, as parents we should allow our children to have choices and let them discover what roles they want to define their character rather than forcing them to fit into ridged gender roles.

What I love about this site and all the people that comment is that all of the people who hate on Sherri (or Elisabeth) and call them names are supposedly the open minded people who want everyone treated the same. Try looking in the mirror.

I personally dont agree with her, but I do think she is entitled to her own opinion and isnt that the point of their show…to discuss topics and give their opinion on them?! Seriously though they are her kids and she can raise them however she wants. Who gives a shit if she doesnt want her kid to wear a dress!

    126

Sherri's son is going to be the most repressed child ever! He isnt going to be able to form his own opinions. He is going to be taught that whatever mommy says is the right and only way and that will be such a shame! There are so many different types of ppl in the world and we should all grow and learn from them.

I think Sherri Shepherd was the only one telling the honest truth. The other ladies talk a good game, but you know they'd shit a brick if their son came home in a dress. Sherri was just keeping it real. I respect her for being honest, even when she knows the self-righteous ones are going to go after her.

Ok first of all I'm upset cuz I hate Elizabitch and love Sheri but now Sheri is starting to act like her. Second of all I agree with the other women in letting children be imaginitive in play whether being boys or girls. What children do in play will not necessarily affect the way they are as adults its just children being innocent children.

    133

I don't see why so many people are bad. I am a straight guy and I have no problem whatsoever with homosexuality. I support gay rights. I think it's only fair. But still, I, myself, would never allow my son put on a dress. And just like she said, it's up to her what goes on in her household. It's just what I think is right. If one day, he turns out to be gay. So be it. I will support him and love him just as much. But there is no way I would allow my SON to wear dresses. Does anybody agree? I really am not trying to be ignorant or stubborn right now. This is just how I feel, and I'm sure there are MANY other gay-friendly people out there who feel the same. Anyways. That's my thoughts. I don't want any hate comments on me please. Perez, you're awesome. Peace.

    137

David I totally agree with you!!

A Kilt is something that is worn on special occasions such as weddings, celeidh's, graduation, communions etc. Its not as if we all walk around scotland with kilts on everyday.

An another thing, it is completely different from a skirt. There is a set outfit, specific jack, socks, sporon, shirt etc that you wear it with.

I wish people in the USA were not so bloody inward looking and are educated about the world.

Go to www.bbc.co.uk and learn about what goes on outside of the USA coz your news stations dont report it!!

My son's teacher believes in letting little children express themselves however THEY want to. Some boys put on little dresses and sit in the corner playing with their pee pees. After all, they are just "Expressing themselves".

what is she afraid of? Very sad, Sherri… I know you read this stuff - so you should try thinking before speaking. And an education might help you… and religion is not an education - it is the opposite of one!

  41. Sarox says – reply to this

    141

I'm surprised they even let Sherri on the view. We all know she's not that bright, and like someone else mentioned, she rarely ever knows what they're talking about. She should quit, and go back to her comedies?
I feel sorry for her children!

I hate to say it but she just digs herself into holes every freaking show and I don't even watch this crap… all I ever hear about is her effing up…she's kind of an idiot… but hey, at least she speaks her mind? unfortunately, her mind showcases TONS of ignorance and contradictions… Sad.

    143

Black culture and families don't deal w/ gay issues or gay family members that well. Who cares, I'd feel the same way; that would be heartbreaking to find out your kid could possibly be gay at such a young age. Not many people envision their kids growing up to be gay or transgendered, and it's not something you're happy about or okay w/ when you realize it. Just a fact, and there's nothing wrong w/ feeling that way.

If liberals are so understanding of other people and their opnions why can they calm the fuck down when Sherri decides to say something——–If liberals really wanted to make themselves look good they would stop being sooooooo senisitive and hot headed towards ever conservative that comes their way—-GIVE THE GAY THING A FUCKING BREAK—–no one cares if your gay —lets move on—-Im gay and I think the Homosexual community needs to shut the fuck up they make us look like retards. I agree with Sheri on this one if I adopt a son he isnt wearing dresses.

  46. Kiki says – reply to this

    146

I let my son put on dresses all the time. Then I let him put on my make-up, shave his legs, and try on a bra. I let him crayon on the walls, and pee on the carpet, and eat off the floor…because he wants to! I don't want him to feel that he isn't free to be whoever he wants to be, and of course do whatever he wants to do.

The fact of the matter is, it isn't acceptable for a boy to wear a dress to school or to work. As parents, we want our children to strike the right balance between happiness and success. Structure is good for kids; ask any child psychologist.

  47. K says – reply to this

    147

I always liked Sherry but she just dropped a notch in the intelligence area. She just showed how ignorant she truly is. How can anyone watch this show and take anything she says seriously. I've lost total respect and not b/c she voiced an opinion on the subject but b/c of the ignorance. AND some asshole had the nerve to comment about how "house wives that stay home and watch this show have the same mentality"… well I have this to say to HIM : Many of us are more evolved than that. Some of us are NOT homo phobic nor do we try and control our childs sexuality. It will be whatever is meant to be. By no means do I think she should be reprimanded for this, however, I don't take that as a valid opinion - she seems like she's stuck back 50's and 60's when we didn't have psychologists educating people on human behavior. She just appears DUMB and a control freak about her children.

Has anyone ever worked in a pre-school or kinder? Little kids BOYS AND GIRLS like to try on dress-up clothes. Girls try on fireman stuff, little boys put on aprons. This happens all over the place EVERYDAY…..it is not a big deal. It doesn't mean a kid is going to come out one way or another…and I think both side blew the whole thing out of proportion just like they ALWAYS DO.

My little boy's kindergarden teacher believes children should be free to express themselves without feeling guilty about it. You know, our new touchy feely country that we live in. My son asked me why the teacher let two boys kiss each other's private parts and said nothing to them even after a little girl told on them.
I guess it is more important for these boys to "Feel good about themselves" than to learn right from wrong.
This whole country is going down the tubes FAST. That's why the children of today are fucking BRATS !

Why is Sherri Shephard being crucified for stating views that are more progressive than the mainstream? I'm sure if you polled Americans regarding their views on transgender individuals, a vast majority would be more conservative than Sherri.

She's not bashing transgender people. She's merely stating that she doesn't agree with transgender lifestyle. For better or worse, she's entitled to her own opinion. She's also entitled to raise her children in any way she sees fit until they are 18 years old.

Are you all serious? So what, she doesn't want her son to wear a dress. Certainlyit is her right as a parent to dictate what her child can wear. She's not beating him. And wearing a dress does not = transgendered. She may not be the smartest person, but you all should really look in the mirror FIRST!

  57. Macy says – reply to this

    157

Sherri used to be funny and seemed smart before all this, no internationally known, but funny to who knows her. It's obvious she's trying to "grab the headlines" by saying "crazy" statements to further her career.

It's a calculated move and I'm dissapointed, I thought she was better than this :-S

Its like what are we trying to do now as a society, group boys and girls into the same category and eliminate gender? THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOY THINGS AND GIRL THINGS, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. Everyone makes such a big fucking deal over making men and women equal, we should just make unisex clothes for men and women to wear so we don't have stupid fucking arguments like this. Dresses are for girls, fucking end of story. If you son is wearing dresses then there is something seriously wrong, NOT RIGHT.

    166

For someone who's all about freedom of expression, can we not jump on Sherri when she has her own opinions that differ from yours. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but no one here has the right to tell her how she should raise her own child. If I had a son, and he wanted to dress like a girl, I just wouldnt buy him any dresses at home. When he's old enought to get a job and buy his own clothes, he can wear what he wants. Now is that homophobic or close minded?…I dont think so and you all shouldnt jump on Sherri just because she is trying to raise her son a different way than you would raise yours.

  67. juju says – reply to this

whats funny is that half the people here agree with her but everyone is so hooked on what is considered "politically correct" …..it is her opinion….how is that anyones business??? if u want ur boy wearing a dress, let him wear a dress…… she is not a stupid lady for having her own opinion…u guys r not very bright for thinking u can tell someone how to raise their children…..

  72. LMM says – reply to this

    172

I don't think there is anything wrong with what she said. She isn't a mean person. Realistically most people who don't have a gay person in their family or as a friend, it takes a while to get comfortable with it. It doen't mean that you hate gay people. I think transgender goes to an entre different level which takes even more time to accept. As a parent you have certain values/morals you want to pass down to your kids. You also want them to be accepted in their youth so you try & protect them. Unless you are super liberal I think it would take time & actually have t have it happen to you in order to be able to discuss accepting a child who is transgender. Being gay is different. I have no problem with gay people & some of my best friends are gay. However, gay or not, I wouldn't want him wearing a dress around me or my friends when he grows up. I wouldn't care if he did it as a child playing make believe but I could see how a conservative parent my be a little worried that there son was goin to do that as an adult. It doesn't make you a bad person to be an over protective parent.

Re: geez – "My house my rules" doesn't mean you're allowed to force your child to be someone you want them to be, especially different from whom they were born to be. In such cases as sexual identity and transgender childhood, that's called abuse and rejection.

  76. cookaloo says – reply to this

    176

    I agree with Sherry!

I am traditional and I won't let my five year old wear a dress; I want to define gender roles at a young age. Please who wants their child to be ostracized by the public?
People who are transgendered can do their thing when they are older and at that time they are more mature to deal with the discrimination that unfortunately comes with it.

    177

as an elementary education major and a teacher in a two year old classroom i know that children need to grow and experience their own things. by telling a two year old child (who by the way does NOT know if they are trasngender by that age) that he cant wear a dress or play with a doll because that is for girls, it is just teaching him to be sexist. just because a two year old boy wants to play dress up at school does not mean he will be gay later in life. and so what if he is?! i think that she made an idiotic comment and i feel badly for her son. KIDS NEED TO EXPERIENCE THINGS ON THEIR OWN and figure out who they are.

Listen, I grew up in an extremely liberal household in Canada, and honestly people just need to let some stuff go. Seriously, the entire world, or anyone with a pulse and at least half a brain, can see that this woman is uneducated and uncultured, why should we get ourselves so upset over someone who in the grand scheme of things, just really doesnt matter. Yes what she said sounded ignorant, but it also sounded like she didnt exactly understand the flow or direction of the conversation, obviously because she doesnt have the intellect to follow. Why would people get upset over this woman, we can't go on getting so fired up about every little thing, political correctness and censorship is so out of hand these day- LET IT GO PEOPLE- SHE DOESNT MATTER!!!!! there are so many other things out there to get upset about, hot topics on the view shouldnt really be one of them

YOu know what I applaud her for putting her ideas out there, although I disagree with her. I also applaud Whoopi who is Gay herself, for letting Sheri get her point out there without trying to jump all over her. People have there own views, and it tends to the minority who are allowed to speak, and the majority gets hushed or slapped for telling thier views. In a show of true integrity a minority( gay) let a straight person express fully thier view. Isn't that why we live in a land of freedom, to be able to speak and be heard and not get persecuted for it? Whoopi expressed that ideal by letting someone who opposed her view the floor to speak.. In that i applaud, Sheri's veiw, I don't. But then that is my opinion.

I am loving christian women who accepts everyone as they are. With that said, I feel as though Sherri's opinion is Sherri's opinion. If she chooses to raise Her child that way it is her business and her business ONLY!!!!!! The same way if you want to nuture your childs transgendered feeling then it is your business only as well. Everyone is always trying to make a racist accusations about someone with out knowing them personally. As an american citizen she is entitled to her own opinion and views. Theres only one entity that can judge us and that it our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ. At the time of our judgment day is when we will find out if they way we lived all along was the right way,so stop passin judgements on people if we dont even know if the path we take was the right or wrong one.

I see nothing wrong with Sherrys' views. She's entitled to them. If you're okay with your son wearing a dress at play time in school, then that's your choice.

A lot of the blogs I'm seeing here are lambasting her for her "conservative" views. The conservatives throw the same judgemental attitide at so-called "liberals"

Whether you let your son play dress up in dresses or your daughter play with guns is not a matter of political ideology. It's a matter of what you want to teach your child based on your religious views.

Not all conservatives are religious. I work with a bunch of them who could care less who God is. For them it's about keeping everything for white people. They openly scoff at God, yet, their party throws God in the face of "liberals" every chance they get.

Stop generalizing people. Sherry is entitled to her views, and they are based on Biblical teaching that men are not to wear womens garments and vice versa for women. This specific teaching is in the Bible. Sherry is a Christian, she's not following a political party, she's following God, who is and always will be above ANY political party.

I'm not sure what she said that was so offensive to you all. She just said that if her child was gay she would accept them regardless. Being a homosexual man does not mean that you have to have feminine characteristics and interests. Don't you think that that perpetuates the stereotype that gay men are feminine and want to really be women?? If that is the rule for HER house what is the problem? Hell there wee things that my mom wouldn't allow me to wear as a child that I wear whenever the hell I want to now and she even gives me compliments. Again, where is the real issue??

Im gay and I think she has a point…its a parents job to RAISE her son. Not let the people at school tell her son whats right and whats wrong. why do people get so mad when kids copy celebs and the parents don't stop them, but when something like this happens they aren't aloud to be a parent?…ya'll are ignorant as hell…not her!

Uh oh! Did you see how Barbara said "Excuse me" when Sherri interrupted her? Very harsh, almost a "shut up!" I bet her contract won't be renewed. She's a moron — not okay for her son to wear "girl" things, but probably okay if he becomes a gangsta drug pusher, since that's something she knows about!

Get over it people. You all act like its the end of the world. If I had a son I sure as hell would not want him wearing a dress. If he was gay, no biggie but lets face it, most guys and I said most guys dont look to hot wearing a dress. And remember, we are talkin about young boys who are in grade school. We all know how cruel kids are at that age so lets back off. Sheri did nothing wrong!!!!!!

I used to be a pre school teacher, and I had a little boy in my class that was 2 years old. He was african american, his father was a bsaketball player and his mother was a lawyer. This little boy wanted nothing more than to be a powerpuff girl. He was effeminate in his gestures, and so forth. In my 12 years as a teacher, I have noticed that afican american mothers/fathers are MUCH more sensitve about this issue than are white mothers/fathers, but these parents let their son be who he was and I will say there was not a happier boy then this child. His dad would bring him powerpuff girls balloons and dolls. That is the way parents should roll. Understand that your children will not always be what you want them to be, but you have to let them be who they are, otherwise they will eventually be lost to you.
