So what? She's entitled to her opinion, and it's an opinion that lots of people share. It might not be enlightened or particularly inclusive, but so many of these issues around sexuality are really new to a big proportion of the population and not everyone is going to embrace it straight away.

Its really sad that they hired this SHerri girl. She is closed minded. Do some research people. Being transgendered is not a choice. I have friends who have gone through this. Its difficult, they just want to be on the outside what they are on the inside. There have been autopsies on many transgendered persons showing that their brains show that they were in fact the sex they believed they should be. Stay educated and love your children.

i feel there's nothing wrong for her to raise her children however she wants to, unless someone gets hurt (in a non-trivial way). after all, she is going to give her child the prerogative when he/she turns 18.

I work in a childcare centre is Australia. We are required by law to have a gender-bias free environment. If a boy wants to wear a dress he can wear a dress. Sherri is being ignorant or paranoid. People that want their children to be 'normal' should not be parents. If she doesnt accept him being transgender (not saying he is) then he will probably rebel or have serious emotional issues when he grows up.

You guys are MEAN and don't understand. If you were a parent, and a good one, you wouldn't want your son wearing a dress, period. Most of you probably don't have kids or are too ultra-liberal for your own good. You have to set limits on your children and tell them what is acceptable and what isn't in our society. They will get ridiculed to no end if they like to put on dress clothes, and the parent's job is to protect them and let them know what is acceptable and what is not. The children do not know. For those who are gay or transgendered, they can deal with that in another way. When they are young, they don't know that they are asking for a lot of hurt feelings by putting on a dress and possibly doing it as a habit. Get with the program y'all. Don't raise your children so liberally that you just let them do whatever they want… wearing a dress is NOT acceptable in this country as a boy, and habits like this start somewhere.. even once is not okay. you have to let them know, girls wear dresses. boys don't. When my son was in pre-k, he would dress up at school in the play area as a "mommy" with a baby in the carriage. No one thought that was weird and neither did I. And now at 15 he is totally into girls and there was no harm in it. I mean they are 3 and 4, let them be kids.

As an early care and education professional, I can tell you that teachers are NOT supposed to tell the kids what to play with as far as boy/girl toys go. We can "lightly discourage" guns and other weapons, but we can't tell a little boy not to dress up in girl clothes. That's state regulation. But that's her opinion……nothing wrong with that.

it's valid to have rules and boundaries for your child, but this is a sensitivity issue. we're not talking about getting a tattoo or drinking alcohol. being transgender is like being born male or female. its not a choice. it's better to help your child understand than to just impose your ignorant beliefs on them. growing up gay, for me was pretty horrible for a while. if it were a choice, i would have definately preferred to be straight to avoid what i went through. thankfully i had accepting parents who supported and loved me. i don't hate sherri for her opinion….she obviously has lived in a world, thus far, void of any kind of diversity other than black/white. As I said, there is a difference between a child wearing the opposite gender clothes for fun and play time and a child coming to their parents saying they wish they were their opposite sex. Is it SO hard for people to understand that sometimes, SOMETIMES people really are born in the wrong body? Fucking hell!
Sheri is absoultely right and extremely courageous in these times if liberal McCarthyism and witch hunts. You can have your own choice of alternative lifestyles and values but to impose acceptance of homosexuality and transgenderism on all parents is wrong. If you want to indoctrinate your child into homsexuality and transgenderism go right ahead but don't impose your choice on others. I worked at a day care and the director said it is ok to put pink bows in the boys hair on picture day. That is just fundamentally wrong. Parents, protect your children and home school!
