I don't know why I'm bothering to post on here, since you all seem pretty unintellectual. But what people need to understand is that children are not born understanding gender identity just as they are not born understanding racism. Someone has to teach that child to be racist. So when children are trained to divide traits, activities, or dress into the two categories of gender, adults give these children permission to label anyone who doesn't fit in as not normal. Who says that only men can wear their hair short or only women can wear makeup? No one actually dictated these as rules, but when they are broken, society mocks the rulebreakers.

They are not imposing acceptance of homosexuality and transgenderism. They are not forcing all the boys to wear dresses, THAT would be imposing.
All they are doing is letting kids be kids, because kids don't see everything in terms of sexuality as adults do.

I say "You Go Girl", to Sherry. She is correct in her thoughts. She is the parent. As parents, we should have and take the opportunity to correct behavior that is against our morals. If the child makes a decision to do something outside of those morals when they get out of the house then "so be it". It likes saying if a child wants to "pretend" threatening another child with a weapon. Does a teacher allow that kind of pretending. Or what if the child wants to dress up as a human bomb? Come on people…..
I don't personally care if my daughter wears boys clothes, or "cross dresses" or whatever…..but people are allowed to have their own opinions!!! If you are a liberal person and are trying to push your views on other people and to change their minds, you are as wrong as the closed-minded prude that is against a little boy playing with girls toys…..and vice versa!!!!
I think she brings an interesting perspective to the table because if everyone sat there agreeing on controversial issues, it wouldn't really be controversial anymore. Sadly, there are a number of people in this country who have narrow views and I thin "The View" was designed so that those different thoughts can be expressed. If there weren't people around that thought like her, well it would be a great place, but we don't live in utopia. I'm all for hearing different opinions, whether I agree with them or not. I wish we, as a country and its citizens had more open debates with one another, then maybe some of these walls can be broken down.

I personally don't care if my kids play dress up. I have 2 girls and a boy but I do however agree with her. Boy and girls should be taught what to wear and when it is appropriate. They are still learning. My 3 year old would like to wear a leotard everyday even in 32 degree weather. I have to teach her it is not appropriate. Perez would you like to be forced to dress and act like a hetrosexual no so stop putting judgements on parents for doing what is right for there kids. Everyone know you have opinions on everyone else so… let the same be for the Hetrosexual population.

The problem with Sherri isn't her opinions. It's her apparent complete and utter ignorance of so many of the topics that are discussed. She contributes nothing of consequence to any of the dicussions and usually sits there with a vacant look in her eyes and the conversation goes right over her head. Whoopie was right on this issue - doctors who deal with children and adults clinically diagnosed with gender displacement issues have been documenting that these children display the behaviors at an extremely early age and that preventing these children from having gender-identity issues as adults. There is scientific evidence that there are definate differences in the brain of a transgender male compared to a gender-identified male. Keeping your son from dressing up will not prevent him from being transgendered if that is the way he's wired.

First I would like to say that I have a three year old son and he has a vaccuum, a broom, a kicthen,ect. He also has tools and trucks and so on. If he wanted to put on a dress to play in I would let him, there is nothing wrong with it. When I am getting ready to go out he is right beside me wanting to put on make uo as well. They do not understand at that age the difference between girl stuff and boy stuff, all they see is something fun to play with. I am also expecting again and if it is a gril I am sure she will want to play with trucks. All I have left to say is to let kids be kids and they will find their own way, even if that means that your son will grow up to be gay, there is nothing you can do to change it, and you should still love them the same way you loved them the first day you held them.
Whoopi Goldberg is highly intellegent. I never had an opinon of her one way or the other before, but now I do. She was the only one on the panel that was fully articulative, well mannered, poised and polite.

Children are taught not to talk to strangers because of the sometimes dangerous repercussions, likewise children should be taught not to act like a fruit (for lack of a better word) in school because sometimes they will be punched in the face when no one is looking. Is it their fault? No…but it is the reality. Other boys in their class are not as understanding as mommy.

ACTUALLY, what she said was that she would want her son's teacher to prevent him from playing dress up with the other kids if there was a dress involved. If you don't see something wrong with that - how it can easily damage her son and label him as an outcast - then you guys are dumber than Sherri is. I used to teach preschool, and there was a dress up corner. All the kids would put on all the clothes - for example, a kid would wear a man's blazer, a skirt, and cowboy boots. Then he/she would stand in front of the mirror and laugh at how silly it is. Now imagine a group of 5 kids going to play dress up, and on the way over there the teacher has to say to one of them, "Remember Jefferey, you can't put on any of the dresses."

NO parent wants their son putting on dresses and makeup. That is just a cold hard fact. Our society can take transgenderess and homosexuality and try to dress it up (no pun intended), but the very bottom line is that it will never, ever be fully exceptable to the general masses. For men to want to look like women and also want intimate contact with other men, and visa versa, just goes against the fundamental laws of nature. And that is a cold hard fact that will NEVER change. With that said, I am very against overt descrimination towards transgenders and homosexuals. We can except this defect of nature and be kind, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with it. There should be absolutely no descrimination towards these individuals in the work place or on general daily terms

Their "discussion" was completely blown out of proportion. It started out as a talk about little children playing with traditional gender-appropriate toys or nontraditional ones and somehow turned into an argument about transgendered people? I think it's great that this Sherri woman can put her opinion out there. I also think it's great that her opinion is challeged. I have a problem with her opinion because it ignores science, research, fact and common sense. A male child is not gay because they put on a dress, nor are they transgender. If a child is transgendered or gay, controlling what they wear wont change that. Sherri seems to be using the "because I said so" style of parenting, which I find cowardly. She ignores all that we have learned so that she can protect the beliefs that make her feel safe. She is comfortable in making her child's world smaller so that she doesn't have to deal with complex issues that she might not be ready to, or capable of facing. It's like a parent who hits: an easy answer. Yes, she's ignorant and homophobic, but so are many Americans. I appreciate that she represents stupid Americans everywhere in a forum where intelligent people can smack her down - just like she tries to do with her kids. Sherri is not being unreasonable, and she certainly is entitled to her own views on the details of parenting. She said nothing controversial, or even insulting. I just think it's funny that it's ok for everyone to disagree with Sherri, but it's not ok for Sherri to disagree with them. That shows the kind of double standard exists in this country today–"you can think whatever you want as long as it agrees with what I think." I don't watch the view but I think the whole point of the show IS to have women with different opinions. Get over it…

Why should they? As a parent I SHOULD embrace it if my 5 year old son wants to wear a dress? And if I don't, that makes me an idiot or a homophobe?
