okay so i dont personally know anyone who is transgendered, i am not gay myself, and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion i think its really sad that there are people on this msg board saying being transgendered isn't "normal", granted, its not common but that doesnt take away from the fact that this is a legitimate condition and parents who would tell their child to be "normal" , calling these kids "gross" dont deserve to have children in the first place, why cant parents accept that their children are not them, they are individuals and the only thing gross or abnormal about being transgendered would be to wind up with a parent who was that close minded, a parent who would rather have their child be miserable and stifle who they truly are than to have a happy child who knew that their parents loved them NO MATTER WHAT. do you know how many kids like this wind up committing suicide? id rather have a kid who was transgendered and happy and ALIVE than a kid who wanted to die because even their own parents couldnt find it in themselves to love them for who they are.

    502

SHERRIE SHEPHARD DOES KEEP IT REAL………YOU ALL KNOW THAT IF THAT HAPPENED TO ONE OF YOUR KIDS, YOU'D BE HAVING A FUCKING COW YOURSELFS……….SO DON'T EVEN TRY TO PLAY LIKE SHE'S THE BAD ONE!! I MYSELF WOULD NOT BE TOO HAPPY KNOWING THAT A DAYCARE THAT I'M PAYING MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO IS LETTING MY SON DANCE AROUND IN LITTLE GIRL'S CLOTHING…….SO BEFORE YOU GO PUTTING SHERRI DOWN, THINK ABOUT HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF THAT WERE YOUR SON IN A LITTLE GIRL'S DRESS FIRST, THEN YOU CAN COMMENT!

So what!! She has an opinion of her own that differs from yours. Good for her!

  4. Jessica, hey! You're an idiot! says – reply to this

    504

Re: Jessica – The point, Jessica, is that she expressed difficulty with a child putting on a dress during "dress up time" in school.
That expresses a ridiculous level of homophia - ala Chris Cooper's character in the film American Beauty. She had a kneejerk reaction that usually comes from people who are afraid of boys being anything but masculine every second of their lives. That breeds homophobia, hatred of anything female (duh, like women) and hatred of their own creative impulse. If they hate their own creative impulse, they will never be anything but sheep following the typical American bully culture. All because Miss Sherri couldn't handle the idea of her son in a dress.

    505

Re: Perez You need to STOP! – OK stop comparing gay people to transgender first of all. Secondly, gay people do not normally like to dress up in the opposite sex's clothing - they like the same sex partner is all (you should know this). Transgender is being born in the wrong type of body and all the child wants to do is wear the clothes that fit who they feel they really are on the inside. I'm surprised you haven't educated yourself on this subject. This is why people are mad - it's not about sherry voicing an opinion it's about the lack of knowledge she has on the subject. It's about NOT thinking before you speak. She acted like she would be horrified if this ever happened to her kid - and maybe rightfully so, but her response was immature and inappropriate - she's on national tv for pete's sake!

Everyone is not gay Perez! I also would not let my boy where girls clothes. I would teach him it is for girls!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion!!! There are so many frikken labels these days….."transgendered" is a bunch of bull. There may be a VERY FEW legit cases of it, but, everyone has their excuse for being a gross wackjob. Hollywood has fuc*ed up peoples minds.

    509

Re: Sherri Shephard ROCKS!! – Your child should not have to hide who they are because it makes you feel better. If you worry about your child shaming you because of what they do in dressup time, you have no right to have children. You are selfish and ignorant and see children only as an extention of yourself and fear thier creativity unless it flatters you. You are barren of humanity and your children will hate you when they grow up. That is, unless you change now. Good luck!

I had to STOP watching this clip. I am a Montessori teacher with 18 years of experience, and SHERRI SHEPPARD and BARBARA WALTERS are BOTH WRONG WRONG WRONG. It is so obvious that this topic just plugs people in to the idea of homosexuality. A 2 year old boy putting on a dress IS NOT a measure of being "gay", transgender, or ANYTHING ELSE other than PLAY. Telling a child what they can or can not wear based on our own homophobia will only cause major problems. Children need to unfold into becoming who they are, and it is NOT ABOUT us setting strict rules about what kind of clothes or toys we allow them to play with.
When my daughter was born, I was shopping with my mom, and my mom actually would not buy my child a toy airplane because she was a girl. I threw that plane in the cart and paid for it myself. She just turned 18, and SURPRISE, she IS NOT GAY.

Re: bl – don't get off the subject dope. we're not discussing drugs. Go and get an education you imbecile - gays are born that way. You are probaby so homophobic that you wouldn't even take a minute to speak to a gay person let alone find out why they are the way they are. Stop speaking about logic considering you have none. Children are well aware at a young age who they are - who are you to say differently , have you spoken with a homosexual teenager ? I guarantee they'll tell you they knew they were different from a young age. So sad to be you living with such a narrow mind and so much ignorance. get help.

    514

Sherri said if her child said he was transgendered she would still love him but that he couldn't wear a dress under her roof. She didn't say he couldn't express himself by wearing a dress but that he couldn't do it under her roof. Even now as an adult I follow the rules of my mother's house. She's religious and I've never slept with a boyfriend in her house while visiting. I love and respect her and her home. We're blessed to be able to have and express our own thoughts, feelings, hopes, and desired. She's free to express hers.

  15. Gina says – reply to this

    515

Re: Kristen – Basically, that is the exact what Sherrie said on the View. Even going as far as saying that if her son is gay before 18, it does NOT change her love for her son, she would be supportive of him. The question was pertaining to children donning on costumes female or male costumes. She doesn't want her little boy putting on Cinderallaish costumes, keep with the "boy costumes." It is refreshing to hear a parent especially a single parent excersing their parental control rather than some parents saying, "oh well, anything goes." but of course this is ONLY my opinion and i respect all other opinions in this matter. Personally, i wouldn't mind my little girl putting on boy costumes, and as a rule little boys like to stick with the boy costumes.

    516

REBECKA, "not everyone is comfortable with transgender"?????? What does that mean??? People ARE transgendered, whether "we" are "comfortable" with it or not.
Children ARE NOT blank slates, waiting for us to fill them up and define them. The ARE who they ARE. I am sorry, but I don't believe this is a choice, who would choose such a rough road in life??

  17. Cougar of the South says – reply to this

    517

"My house, my rules". That may aply to using drugs or having sex in the house, but it means much more if it is used to deny a child who wants to wear clothing associated with the opposite sex. If a child or adolescent really has a propensity for cross dressing, not allowing he or she to do so disallows that child's actual ingrained identity. The issue is not so simple as Sherry's mentallity is.
I have a friend who started cross dressing when he was 3. To this day he is a 36 year old heterosexual who cross dresses in private.
By the way, Tyra's transexual show from the other day was spectacular. Very well done. She educates herself as she goes along.
The View will have to bring in a few people to educate Sherry with daily lessons just like they had to do with Hasslebitch. Sherry is beyond ignorant.
Her knowledge on the origination of Christianity was pricelessly amusing. I don't think she has ever even heard of BC and AD.
To bad they didn't have the sense or money to hire Kathy Griffin…

quote from perez reader, las vagas:
"Not many people envision their kids growing up to be gay or transgendered, and it’s not something you’re happy about or okay w/ when you realize it. Just a fact, and there’s nothing wrong w/ feeling that way"

UHHHMMM, YES YES YES THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH FEELING THAT WAY. IT'S CALLED BEING CLOSED MINDED. I COULD CARE LESS IF MY KIDS WERE GAY. SOMEONE'S SEXUAL PREFERENCE DOES NOT DETERMINE IF THEY ARE A GOOD OR BAD PERSON. HOPEFULLY YOU WILL NEVER DECIDED TO HAVE CHILDREN, LAS VEGAS. IF YOU DO, I FEEL VERY SORRY THAT THEY HAVE SUCH A CLOSED MINDED IDIOT FOR A PARENT.

    522

Re: Cougar of the South – Her religion don't condone boys dressing up in girls clothing. Most churches don't agree with that and there are a lot of Americans Christians so as much as people hate Sherri, they also hate most of society. A large portion of America feels the same way. The show is called THE VIEW because they knew there would be different views.
That was the purpose of the show, if you want a show where everyone shares the same opinion start searching on cable for THE FOX CHANNEL.

  23. T in the OC says – reply to this

    523

OH… I saw that! One of the few times I actualy watched The View, and I TOTALLY AGREE WITH SHERRI. She is a Christian and it is just the way we believe.

It is not OK to be gay. It's just not. And although transgender is not always gay, it's perverted.

  24. AG says – reply to this

    524

I am a liberal myself, but since when is it not okay for someone that has more conservative ideas to speak his/her view? Why does everyone in the media (other than Fox news) have to be liberal? Anyway, I think Sherri has a right to make her own choices for what goes on in her own home and what kind of rules she puts down for her own children. If her rules don't work for her own kids than she will deal with her own mistakes later as will all parents.

    528

I can't believe that Sheri would actually freak out about a preschooler putting on a dress. These are kids just playing, which is so important for development. A dress isn't going to turn a kid into a homosexual…BTW, Sheri is the dumbest TV personality I've ever seen. I guess Barb has her on the show to represent the dumb folks of America.

  29. William says – reply to this

She has to have flunked out of special ed. And frankly, I'm sure they were glad to see her go. A G.E.D is not a bad thing Sherri-get one.

  30. You are the worst says – reply to this

    530

Re: T in the OC – I thought your god told you christians to love people. What happened to you? Something about "do unto others…"?

"Judge not lest ye be judged"?

There is a special place in hell for people who say they are christians and hate others. You clearly don't even know what transgendered is. It is not perverted. Your mind is perverted. You use chrisianity to hate. you are the foulest, most perverted of humans.

They were not talking about "gay". They were talking about dressing up during dress up time in school. What is gay about that?

She also said she wouldn't mind if her son were gay, so why are you asserting that you agree with her when what you need to do is hate others?

You are even worse than she is. She's stupid and scared, but you are a hateful, anti-christian human-loathing hypocriate.

  31. Connie says – reply to this

    531

She is obviously a very ignorant, small-minded individual. There are millions more like her out there… however it is amazing that Barbara Walters continues to allow her on the show. I thought the premise was intelligent women discussing topics around a table.

  36. jessica says – reply to this

    536

Well, she has proven to me that not only is she unbelieveably ugly on the outside, shes even uglier on the inside. She should be ashamed of herself, i know it's the view and its about their points of view, but in a way im glad she shows her trueself because its gonna make alot more people hate her, like myself!

Only parents should comment on this subject. I have two sons 12 and 10 and they will not wear a dress in my home or school! Damn sure they're not going to be very young like 3 and 5 wearing them. Come on that's not good parenting and it's not acceptable! Keep it forreal!!

my son played with his sisters dress up clothes and girl toys since he was the only boy - he turned out just fine - little kids dont get that boys and girls have to play with different toys - they just want to play and have fun - isnt that what life is all about? so what if a little boy puts on a dress up dress - its not the end of the world - lets let kids be kids

  43. Kate says – reply to this

    543

Sherri is entitled to her own opinion….that's what makes this country great!

  44. Heather says – reply to this

  45. Bable says – reply to this

    545

I don't think I would want my young son to run around in a dress either….not because of the reasons sherri said on the view….but for fear of what other peopl(who don't love him or care about him) might say or do….because of their own fears and judgements….they could hurt him because he is different!! People are stupid sometimes and cruel when someone is different..

  46. hh says – reply to this

    546

this all started over a kitchen playset!?! emeril, jamie oliver, gordon ramsay and my husband all cook and as far as i know, none of them are transgender. this is such a hillbilly argument, i want to slap them. i am not saying conservatives dont have the right, but what really is the issue here? i think it is being Type A and backward. my son and daughter play these things together, and he is 6 and plays every sport! relax, sherri.

  47. ed says – reply to this

    547

This woman is brainless! Hasn't got 2 neurones to synapse to start a thought process! She thinks the world is flat, doesn't kow what BC means and now is completely out of touch with current intelligent thinking! I just dont understand why they dont get rid of her dumb ass off that show! Hats off to Whoopi! She got brains and also the finesse to show up that idiot! She's so stupid she doesn't even know that Whoopi is sending her up!

  48. What? says – reply to this

    548

Sherri may be real stupid, but Barbara isn't all that bright either. A little boy puts on a dress and suddenly he's transgender? Wow, lucky, she wasn't my mother, she might have forced me to get operated. Eww. Or go to counselling. I used to wear princess dresses as a little boy… but I just turned out gay. And not even really that effeminate.

  49. KGI says – reply to this

    549

well you can't expect someone that thinks the earth is flat to understand transgender or gender roles.

  50. TransThinker says – reply to this

    550

The reason I wouldn't want my son in a dress is precisely because the other boys would kill him- either socially, mentally or physically. It would not help him have coping mechanisms because he would be so harassed if not hurt. There is NO WAY to change the instinct of boys to beat up the different kid. It is the way mother nature made them. Girls are more nurturing and forgiving. But even little boys who don't even have much testosterone yet will taunt and and pick on a child who is odd. Not just different- but ODD. And that is mother nature and you are not going to change it no matter what you think.

  51. ChiLLiN rElAxIn says – reply to this

iDk what she said that was wrong she said in her house HER boys won't wear dresses ohkay and…… WHATS WRONG WITH THAT???

  52. Go Sherri! says – reply to this

    552

Come on! Not everyone wants their young boys prancing around in a princess dress. You damn extreme liberal fucks are the MOST INTOLERANT people around. Let your son prance around school in a dress if you'd like, BUT Sherri has EVERY RIGHT to say that she doesn't want her boy wearing a dress. Get the fuck over yourself.

  53. bill says – reply to this

    553

Push liberalism too far and the hammer will come down. It's true. If you push any line or boundary too far there will be a backlash.
I would rather live in a world where there are differences between men and women.
No matter how 'special' you think your child is, there is going to be a kid at school who thinks they are a little freak for wearing a princess dress.
Protect your children and tell them not to act like targets at school.
What if your daughter wanted to dress like a hooker in grade 1?..exactly, I don't think every childhood inclination needs to be indulged.
Society runs smoothly because of boundaries.
Perhaps it's totally fine for your children to play nudist colony while at school. However, I would rather have my kids have respect for convention.

  54. MEEEEE says – reply to this

  58. Ryan says – reply to this

    558

Consider that her kid does grow up to be gay. If she is telling him, "you need to be more masculine, you need to be this way because this is how society works," that kid is going to hold resentment toward her and is going to feel alone. And since when does being friends and playing with girls make someone want to chop their dick off and get implants?

  63. H says – reply to this

    563

I agree w/ Sheri. If she doesn't want her son in a dress, she has a right to that. Just because a boy wants to wear a dress, that does not mean that parent has to allow that. If their 14 year old daughter wanted to wear a mini skirt with no underwear or with a thong on, they would not allow that. Now would they? Parents have to set limits on what their children wear. If someone does not want their son in a dress, that is their own right and as long as that child lives under their roof, it should be respected. That's my opinion. I'm not saying that if your child is gay, you should disown them. Not at all. If my daughter comes to me one day and tells me she is gay, I will love her just as much as I do now…that will never change for ANY reason. I just feel that we, as parents have a right to what we will allow our children to wearh while they are still children. After 18..its up to them and there is nothing more we can do!

Re: Sherri Supporter – the only idiot sounding fools are you and GLADD! and yes the majority of us are parents - all you would have to do is scan through the comments to figure it out. And I bet even more of these so called "fools" also have dealt with the issues of gay/transgender in their own families. SO the small minded like yourselves will never truly understand what the fuss is about b/c you have never experienced one or the other. AND with your ignorance I bet if you did have a gay relative (i.e. aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.) you would NEVER know about it because you're such homophobic uneducated morons they could never possibly open up to you. YOU'LL be lucky if your children or grandchildren don't turn out with an sexual identity problem …. but that would be KARMA rearing its ugly head at you!

Think about the fight you're fighting, yesterday it was for gays not being bashed, then it's gay marriage, now it's this transgender garbage, what will tomorrow cause be? Ask yourself, use your freakin' head for more than a hat rack and ask yourselves that.
Things advance, so while you think "gay rights" is such a simple issue, someone else will be using gay rights to justify what we still consider atrocities today.

shrry teaches her kids its not ok to be different
she teaches her kids that she will not love them no matter what, her love is conditional, and that she will only love her child if he conforms to her ignorant pig ways….she is a selfish whore who cares more about her own beliefs then whether her child feels accepted and loved. She puts herself before her children. she is a lowlife, disgusting PIG. END OF STORY.

Children do not think about sexuality because they don't even know what sex is at that age therefore the idea that they are already "gay" is absurd. They may have feminine traits or tendancies and they may grow out of them or not. The ones that don't end up being gay. You don't know whether you're gay or straight until you hit puberty and start gettting attracted to others so to label a young child as gay or transgendered is absurd. Letting a boy wear a dress will just get him beat up. Our society is pushing sexuality on kids WAY too young! Just let children be children, when they get older they can decide who they are.

ok this is not a big deal. her view is probably very liberal compared to the majority of america. i dont know who you think shes upsetting except for these politically correct patronizing bitches. and the gay community. kids dont know how to dress. men wear certain types of clothes and women wear others. this is life. do all gay men walk around in dresses? no. so stop your antics

Between this and the hate crimes bill getting dropped I have absolutely decided this is a backwards, ignorant, and redneck country and we are NEVER going to move forward. It is absolutely terrible how pathetic this woman actually is. As the saying goes, TO BAD CLOSED MINDS CAN'T COME WITH CLOSED MOUTHS.

    Re: Melissa

Maybe it`s because they feel as if they are discriminated enough as is and to add another thing on top of it would be an overload for their kid. If the world were more tolerant, parents wouldn`t have to worry about whether or not thier kid was going to be beat up just because he is different. It`s a sad sad world we live in and I don`t think its going to change anytime soon. Like a million years later and there are still people who believe all blacks are good for are being slaves.

Re: Rebecca – She never said that her son should deny who he is..just not to bring any homosexual activity in her house..no different than telling a daughter not to have sex with a BF in her house! its just common decency and manners..don't call her ignorant because she is not. she just says that AS A PARENT SHE PERSONALLY does not want her son to dress like a girl! She is speaking only of her own personal beliefs and not saying "This is how America should raise thier children".

  90. H says – reply to this

    590

So those of you who don't agree with Sheri think it's okay for a teenage girl to walk around in a mini skirt w/ her bottom hanging out? I mean come on, she wants to be a promiscous girl…why not let her?? It's who she is and it's all about letting her express herself, right? Yeah right, now come on! See, that's the same mentality as what some of you are saying about letting a boy wear a dress. Just because the boy wants to wear the dress doesn't mean the parent has to allow that. If he is a boy, he is a boy. That is how he was made..how he was born. As he grows older, if he comes to realize that he is gay, then that's fine…let him be who he is and don't criticize him for being who he is. But I don't think that at preschool age, a child could even know if he was straight or gay..they don't know what sex is. I say if she doesn't want her son in a dress, he doesn't wear a dress..end of story. Just like someone mentioned earlier..some parent's don't allow tatoos or piercings..that is their right as a parent until that child becomes an adult. Sheri is entitled to her own opinion and if she prefers her son to wear boy's clothing..then that he should!!

    591

so first of all, i can't stand Sheri to begin with. she's nothing but an ignorant bigot bitch who knows nothing about anything, and yet can talk for what seems like ages. why is she even on television??

anyway, this is why we have children who are depressed and confused and even commit susicide, because they're made to believe that these types of things are "weird" and "unnatural"…they're just children for goodness sakes! who cares if your boy is wearing a dress or playing with a doll!? does that make you love them any less? if it does, then maybe you should have re-thought that whole "being a parent" thing.

CHILDREN don't get depressed and commit suicide because their "gayness" is not accepted by their parents, it's because of other reasons - like poor family dynamics, divorce and all that… there's really something wrong with western cultures… you put too much emphasis on things that don't really matter that there's so much depression and suicide because of this… better busy yourself with other things people

Sherri is old skool and represents the opinion of a lot african american female parents. her key comment - "in my house"

That is how we were raised! If you have a thing, that's ok but you don't impose it on others just because it's your thing.

    that is called RESPECT.

she did say after 18 and out of "her house" her child can do whatever he wants to do!
