Not only was Rihanna's Umbrella the biggest single of the year, but it was also the most covered single of 2007.
And, now Rihanna has done her own cover - of her own song!
RiRi went in to the studio and recorder an exquisite acoustic version of Umbrella with a new arrangement and a few added lyrics.
It's gorge!

It sounds horrible. And what makes this even sadder is that there are artists out there that can cover this song and make it sound 50x better than the original. And there are people who are actually saying this new version sounds good… wtf are some of you smoking? Her voice sounds so shaky - its almost unbearable to listen to. It sounds so awkward. Give it up Rihanna. You work best when you're in a studio, where the producers can pretty much computerize your voice to make you sound better.

FYI: You can't "cover" your own song. You can reinterpret it or do another version. "Covering" your own song is a contradiction in terms.
The original was a better version because the production disguised how horrible her voice is. This version puts it all out there in all it's ear drum breaking glory.

3 - it's not accoustic. If its got extra production in it rather than just that guitar (which it does), its not accoustic, its a regular track.

I actually prefer Mandy Moore's cover of this song. Mandy's got a lot more soul in her voice than Rhianna. She should stick to the upbeat version and let Mandy Moore take care of the acoustic.
