Mayer Does Timberlake
Filed under: Justin Timberlake > John MayerJohn Mayer just uploaded THIS to his YouTube account.
He took to his guitar for an interpretation of the I Think She Knows/Lovestones interlude by Justin Timberlake.
It's kinda amazing. He's able to use his guitar rhythmically and as a bass simultaneously, if that makes any sense.
Ch-ch-check it out!

HOT
Ahhhh. I'm in love! Beautiful!
It looks like my favorite musician/celeb is in production mode again. Kudos to Johnny for the clip. I think it's sounding awesome!
And thanks, Perez, for JM news…the only kind that matters! ;D
i think this is pretty cool
You really don't anything about music! He's looping the first line he plays. Musicians have been doing it for years. You may be a genius when it comes to celebrity gossip, but sometimes you really show off your lack of intelligence in other areas.
He really has nothing better to do than post shit on YouTube? What a wanker..
He isn't playing the bass and lead at the same time. It's being played in the back ground on another track, possibly on his computer.
that is a panty remover if i ever heard/saw one. and ive seen em all.
you stoopid fag. He uses a modulator to record one part of what he's playing and then it plays back in a loop while he plays something else. All controlled by his foot. So he isn't playing both parts at the same time. u should stick to taking it up the ass and not reporting on things you don't understand.
I'm pretty sure that he's not playing bass and rhythm simultaneously… he's probably looping the sound or whatever its called. he played it, recorded it, and is now looping it while he plays the rhythm. Still cool regardless!
He recorded the bass line on a looper in the beginning (when only the bass line is playing) then played the melody over it after that
So, yes, technically he's playing simultaneously, but not literally.
I love you Perez. You make me gasp every day!
GORGEOUSSSS!!! i gotta give cred to jt too for making that little interlude omg melts my heart everytime i hear it!
John Mayer is amaaaaaaaazing…yet, I dont think he was playing melody and bass simultaneously, it sounded like the bass was coming from a recording somewhere else…oh well
I AM SO SO SO SO IN LOVE WITH JOHN MAYER, HE IS A GREAT MUSICIAN!
*Swoon*
wow!!!! john is great
HE NEEDS TO MARRY ME IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the same way you play with that guitar… and i'll be your sex slave forever, john!!!
this is the most beautiful thing. i just cried. i love you john mayer
he's looping it. playing the bass part and then recording it, playing it and playing something else. it's really cool.
The best part…. Mayer is well major!!!!!!!!!
he's using a loop pedal Perez, you fat stupid retarded fag. Theres very few people in this world who deserve success less than you. god you're a dumbass
"I Think She Knows/Lovestones" LMAOOO you dumb fat fuck! I'm pretty sure the song is called Lovestoned/I think she knows Interlude. You fucking moron! Lovestones interlude LMAOO stoneS! IDIOT!
too bad thats not even him, John Mayer has tatoos on the inside of both arms, this guy does not have ne, so this is bullshit!!!!!!!
Re: Brian – Too bad you're retarded and you can't tell his left arm from his right arm. He has a tattoo on his lower RIGHT arm and you obviously can't see that part of his arm because hes strumming the whole time. And it's his own YouTube account so yes it's John.
The boy can play and no one gives him the credit he should get and if you don't realize it then you have a shitty taste in music.
Thank you, Perez, for posting this! I had never heard this song before - I love the guitar part in the original and John's version just enhances that so beautifully. I LOVE IT! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do a cover of this song that can be downloaded on iTunes, John! I could watch him play guitar all night.
Re: Julie –
What happened at your college?
John Mayer is a god.. Who doesn't know talent when they see it?! lol John Mayer is my hero
pretty cool.
it's exactly what kt tunstall does when she performs live without her band-it's just using pedals to record loops as you go, and then playing over them.
HOT. Luv you John, Luv you JT. Call me!
It's awesome but, FYI he's live looping. He played the beginning, recorded it, and is looping it throughout. Not as a-mazing as you think ^^
He's not playing bass, it's in the background somewhere.
it's an effektgerät, perez! its not maier!
I thought he was under contract will Fender to play only his signature Stratocaster. What's he doing playing PRS? Can someone answer that for me?
he is not gay, that was fucking awesome. i would let him do many things with those fingers
Re: Riley – Sure riley.. go play some covers
Check out Final Fantasy from Canada - he uses his violin in the same way and has been doing it for the past 3 years, that I know of….
isn't that just a loop station?
wow thats awesome. i LOVE this song. no. i love the interlude of this song. the rest kind of sucks. i heart john mayer.
actually, he uses this tool that records a sound and then by using a pedal, playing it over and over making a bassline.
i think kt tunstall does that when she plays live shows.
Re: Way2GoJohn!!! – wow professor, that has got to be the most insightful analysis of the playability of an ES335 I have ever seen when referring to a video featuring a CS336. Great call moron. And thanks for your input about teles and strats being exclusive finger picking guitars - tell that to hendrix, stevie ray, ed king, beck, brad paisley, or any other phenomenal strat/tele player who has never been seen without the use of a pick. Here's a little curveball for ya; why do they have pickguards?
While this is cool and everything, using your guitar to appear as if it's making both bass and guitar sounds is not a big deal. Jack White does it all the time using a whammy pedal.
Re: i hate spics – wha????????
He doesn't play the bass and the guitar at the same time..He probably uses pedals, so that he can record bits at a time… You will see the same thing done, if you watch live performances of Black Horse and a Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall
the video might not be groundbreaking but i still love it, mainly b/c the interlude owns almost anything else timberlake has done and i'm a mayer fan. JM has mad guitar chops that you just have to see live to fully appreciate.
and yes, it's just a pedal. most guitar players use 'em. my boyfriend plays with his all the time. i have to second the comment on howie day…now that guy is absolutely mindblowing with the pedal work. did crazy stuff with it before he tried to go mainstream and flopped with an actual band. but again, he's not the first and not the only so all of you kt tunstall fans who act like she's the only one to have ever touched a pedal need to expand your musical repertoire.
he didnt do both melodys at the same time. he looped it. you can see he hits a pedal. and it says that in his descrip.
Re: Way2GoJohn!!! – Keep your junior high school guitar knowledge to yourself. ALL guitars are made to be finger picked. Only morons like you can't do it with any guitar. Obviously he doesn't have a problem fingerpicking. Don't talk about things you know very little about.
….and that just confirms why I love john!
it's called a loop station.
mayer said in an interview that the rest of this song was shit- he would look forward to this part. he did an amazing job looping it.
he's not playin it at the same time he's using a pedal to loop it
He's using pedals. It's not that fancy. I'm not saying he's not talented, but…just go to Guitar Center and check it out for yourself.
John won me over by accident. Ben Folds opened for him, and I figured I would stay, since I"d payed all that money anyways. Wow. He's got a wicked sense of humor, a luscious voice, mad guitar skills. All these things make him quite sexy. He's not bad looking either. I love the fact that in the video, you can't even see his face. Saweeet! I'd do him.
He is one word A M A Z I N G!!!!!
Now thats talent!
its called a chorus pedal. play the rythym and punch the pedal. it repeats the rythym over and over. you then play whatever else you want over top of it. it doesnt require talent perez, any kid can do it.
i think he is amazing at guitar. his version is better than the original !!!!
he's not playing the bass line at the same time. it's already recorded and playing in the background, because at one point he stops playing but the sound of the bass line is still going.
uh.. thats not that amazing - he just uses an audio loop. canadian danny michel does it all the time!
that isnt john mayer…..what did he get his arm tattoo removed???
OMG that's awesome :]
