Danielynn's Medical Condition

Filed under: Baby Blabber > Larry Birkhead

280_lbirkheadmsteines_080111_et_ins.jpg

Yup, she's cross-eyed!

And Larry is torn up about how to treat Dannielyn's condition.

To have surgery or not to have surgery?

Click here to read his interview with The Insider about it.

Did he get paid for that chat? Or is he just a famewhore that is pimping out his daughter's medical issues without compensation???

Oh who cares if he enjoys the fame or not.
It's actually useful to the public when celebrities bring up theirs kids medical issues with the rest of us, such as autism or strabismus. It's good for the public to be more aware of these issues and for people to talk openly about them.
I think the quicker he gets it fixed the better although I know it's a hard decision for him to make given what just happened with his father. But all you can do is talk to the drs and make the best educated decision you can for your children.

Larry, she is beautiful baby no doubt, but she needs her eye fixed. She will have enough trouble in life with the drama of her mothers life following her forever. People are cruel and they will use her smallest flaws agsisnt her to make money off it. You know this already. Of course maybe you have every intention of fixing her eye but you seen away to make money off her. All you people suck. having children and whoirng them out just for the money. Whatever, just fix her eye and go away.

THAT IS NOT HER DOCTOR DUMBSHITS!
That is MARK STEINES from that lying @ss tv show ET or Entertainment Tonight…better known as the Howard K. Stern Show
Larry should have gotten THAT & her other medical problems corrected when he first got DOLLARLYNN in his care.
But then again that wouldn't have brought him big bucks down the road.
Dollarlynn has other medical problems her aunt Angela Birkhead Johnson has said for some time now.
She JUST started walking & is OVER 16 months old.
I am sure being cross-eyed is gonna be the least of that kid's problems w/ Larry "I'll Sue" Birkhead & Howard K. $tern in charge of the purse strings!
Larry will be handing Dollarlynn over to Grandma Virgie as soon as he isn't able to pimp her out anymore.
They have started filming DADDY DUTY the reality tv show already.
WTF? Is that porno pic of Dollarlynn hanging on the wall in the background.
There used to be one of Anna wearing panties in that same pose hanging there…
    GOD HELP THAT CHILD!
    R.I.P. Anna & Daniel!
    Good luck in life Dannielynn!

  8. Deb says – reply to this

    108

She's been cross-eyed since she was born. This operation could not have been done at an earlier time, but this can be corrected. I've often wondered how this baby would be affected by all the drugs her mother took. If you watch all the videos of the baby you will notice her movements are a little off, not developmentally correct. This is what happens when parents take drugs.

Its a "lazy eye" not uncommon in children…They cover the good eye with a patch to make the other eye "work" the way its suppose too. Oh dear an eye patch! What shall I do? SHOCK! Or you can keep her "cross eyed" and it will help save her "virtue" when she gets older, she won't be used and abused like her mother was, because no one will want a goofy looking women……

  10. Melanie says – reply to this

    110

It's quite a routine surgery. My son had surgery done to correct his "lazy" eye or "cross" eye when he was just 2. He had both eyes operated on, poor little guy. Still has to wear glasses today. Just have the surgery done, otherwise it will be worse when she's older.

  11. One Eyed Jack says – reply to this

    111

I hope this cute kid's dad has the sense to get this estate of $500,000,000.00 settled before they operate. Things can go wrong. If she inherits her mothers body, an eyepatch can be quite sexy. I know!

this is SO ridiculous. a friend of mine was born with both eyes crossed, it's just weak muscles in the eyes and a super easy thing to fix! i could tell from the moment i first saw dani-lynn that she was cross-eyed. then suddenly she's wearing an eye patch just to make it look dramatic! larry is like a male nut-case version of anna nicole. it's so sad.

Nice try trying to cover that up.
Can the kid walk yet ? She's 16 months old but yet I have never seen her walking.
As time goes on you will see a lot more wrong with that little girl because of the rotten decisions made by her mother. Sad.

OMG the guy is trying to get fame i tell ya!! I had that SAME thing as a kid!! i did the patch and i had 3 surgery's by 2nd grade. Only one should fix it but it did not work with me. They said when you hit puberty it might fix it self because of your body changing and that is what happened with me and i see perfectly fine. my one eye is still a little stronger, but i can't even tell. I had to wear glasses from age 3 till it fixed itself and that was fine…my GOD he is just trying to get more fame, it is not that big of a deal.

I've had this all my life and had four operations. She's not going to "go blind" or lose her eyesight. She may end up with monocular vision (seeing with only one eye at a time) but she won't see double- her brain will suppress the other image. I've lost all depth perception in my right eye but I can see just fine. I hope they start with the eye patch, but I'd be surprised to see if drops of any kind will help. I've never heard of that; it's a muscle problem on the eyeball itself. Good luck to both Larry and Dannielynn…she's cute anyway!

  26. Ambiepants says – reply to this

    126

This poor little pumpkin. She has been through so much already in her young life. I feel so bad for her… and for Larry actually… As a parent you are often faced with tough calls to make. I hear people do try eye patches first to strengthen the weaker eye. He should seek the advice of an experienced doctor and go from there. I pray for this sweet little one!!

I had the surgery at age 2 and 3. It was the BEST think of my life. I couldn't imagine if my parents hadn't done it, how different my life would have been. I don't even get how this is a question. HAVE THE SURGERY!

  36. Dee Dee says – reply to this

sad to say but she is probably cross-eyed because her mommy was high on drugs the whole time she was pregnant. You gotta wonder if there are other things wrong with her that we can't see. Poor thing.

    137

    Do the surgery Larry!

My friend did it for one of her triplets and he is a whole different boy. He can see SO much better.
Before he was always looking as if there were two of you…and he run into things.
He was about her age when he had it done….DO it!
It is not that risky of a surgery.

Re: kirksizzle – let her eyes be crossed? WTF? are you retarded? why would anyone want their child to endure ridicule from peers when in fact the eyes can be fixed? as for the picture in the background, it's called a portrait of his daughter in a diaper. Obviously you don't have children so why don't you keep your two cents. If you are a parent, try and work on your lack of compassion for other children.

Wonder when he'll publicly address the issue that she STILL can't walk???

Trust me this is only the FIRST of many medical announcements he'll be making publicly about Dannielynn. There will be much more to come!!

AND YES THIS WAS A PAID INTERVIEW!!! This is the same guy Stern has been hooked up with for exclusives for a long time!!!! Stern is the PR and booking agent!!!

Many years ago I had a friend who was born crosseyed, and it was due to his mothers speed use during her pregnancy. His eyes weren't fixed until he was 2 yrs old..and one was always a wee bit wonky. I hope that Dannylynn has been evaluated for developmental delays..etc…

  43. mcr says – reply to this

I commend him for doing the story and I don't think it's just about getting publicity. He knows how cruel the world can be and has probably seen past comments alluding to the possibility of the lazy eye anyway. This way, he confronts the issue head on. And now, she can go out with ther eye patch without everyone questioning why. Better plan than hiding her away or denying the obvious. I hope it all works out!

I have twin daughters who both had strabismus, an eye patch rarely works, the surgery lasts about 2 hours, they have minimal pain, and it only takes about 3 or 4 days to heal after surgery. That guy is trying to make more of it than there really is. That poor baby.

  50. Princess says – reply to this

    150

I was born with the same consition. I had 2 surgeries as a child and one as an adult within the last year and YES, he should have it fixed. It's easier to heal from the surgery as a child, and it will minimalize the possibilities of her being teased as a chiold as I was - hearing cruel comments like "Clarence the cross-eyed lion!".

With modern medicine this surgery is outpatient and considered minor, so for the baby's sake, Larry, get it done.

  51. Megan says – reply to this

    156

Many of you really don't know about strabismus and amblyopia, so I will try to be nice. It is sufficient to say that these conditions can happen to any child even under the most ideal of circumstances. And, while it is a serious issue that must be addressed, most children who are treated at a young age have very good outcomes.
I realize this website's bread and butter is picking on people for their flaws, but your comments would be more entertaining if they can from a factual place.

What a surprise that he makes a common childhood ailment into a huge pity party in the press. I had a lazy eye when I was Dannilynn's age too. It's easily fixed. You put a patch over the eye that is strong and the other one straightens out within a few months. I've been totally fine since the age of 3…20/20 vision.

NO!!! Eye problems in infants and toddlers are NOT caused by drug use! Are you retarded? I think your mother smoked crack when she was pregnant with you! Get a clue!

I can't believe all of the uneducated people on here that are saying that this condition is caused by drug use during pregnancy. If you people would read (that is if you can read) about this and other eye conditions you would know that this is not the case. Grow up you idiots!

I had surgery to correct a weak eye muscle when I was 9 years old. Up until that point, I wore glasses to correct my eyes, and after the surgery, glasses were no longer needed. I don't remember any pain or difficulties after the operation. If her condition is due to a weak eye muscle, surgery is a wonderful solution.

    167

Hey idiots! My son had strabismus (NO, I didn't do drugs during pregnancy ~~~ what's YOUR mom's excuse?) We did the eye patching religiously. He wanted to yank it off, and I just taped that sucker on there for about 4 hours each day. Once you distracted him, he was okay. Sometimes, I had to use so much tape it looked like he had a head wound! Guess what? FIXED IT. NO surgery. Binocular vision now.
However, my son's pediatrician (yes the pediatrician herself) had strabismus surgery to correct her eyes at age 19. I would have never known.
People on this board can totally be a bunch of morons.

He's an idiot if he doesn't let her have the surgery. I have strabismus, astigmatism and I'm far-sighted and have had five eye surgeries to correct my crossed eyes. They look perfect now with my glasses or contacts, and I can't believe he would even consider not letting her have the surgery.

  77. Ashley says – reply to this

    177

And I should say I wore the patch, my mother wasn't on drugs, etc. It's genetic — my niece has the same issue, just not as bad. My first surgery was when I was 8 months old, then 18 months, then three, then 14 then 21 — my parents were obviously worried to death, but it all worked out and I'm fine and MUCH happier than i would be if I had crossed eyes still.

there are two things that can cause crosseyes:
1)when the mom is pregnant and she sleeps with a man other than the father and he blasts jism all over the fetus that can cause crosseyes. and2)when the mom is delivering and she has herpes and it gets in the baby's eye when birthing. so you see in the case of daniel lynn cross eyes were inevitable. next time you see a person with cross eyes tell them "SHAME ON YOUR MOMMA. I have strabismus and its not as horrible as people make it seem. I wore a patch when I was younger and it went away, no surgery or anything needed. He is overhyping it big time

I was born with strabismus, its nothing serious. After having 3 surgeries and wearing glasses until age 14, I'm totally fine. It's not a serious condition at all. All it means is that the muscles in your eye are not as strong as the other eye. I wore a patch, I had the surgery and I wore glasses/contacts for years. Its nothing to be worried about

This condition is not remarkably unusual, and contrary to the claim, it can sometimes correct without surgery. I've known more than one child with it, and in their cases, there was no suggestion or reason to believe that it was somehow caused by maternal substance abuse. One of the British Queen's grandchildren, Lady Louise Windsor, daughter of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, had a form of this condition. She underwent a 30-minute corrective surgery in January of 2006.

You are part of the problem in America. Strabismus is not about being cross-eyed, that would require both eyes to be crossed. Strabismus is about the eye having a quiet spot that is most comfortable to see things like you and I. My son has Strabismus and IS NOT cross-eyed and has never been labeled as such. Even the article that you posted in the post is INCORRECT in what they are stating. It can be outgrown, and it does take surgery at times to correct. What would be the sense of patching one eye do if it could not be reversed some. Ignorance at its finest!!!

My daughter has this. She wears glasses. With the glasses on she is not cross-eyed. With them off she is. If you tell her to fix her eye she can by focusing harder. Why didn't anyone pay to write an article about me? Oh, I forgot, I am no one!
