Spears couldn't even be bothered to face the Commissioner at the custody hearing. She showed up at court but left without even entering the building.
After that little photo op, Brit Brit and entourage - paparazzi boyfriend, shady manager - made a pit stop at a church in the Valley.

Until the 1960s, legal safeguards against involuntary commitment were lax and this led to a number of horror stories of people with no mental illness being trapped in an institution. SO, in order to involuntarily committ Britney
under California law (which is framed around the Baker's Act) three elements must be met for involuntary commitment.
1. a danger to yourself
2. danger to others
3. unable to take care of your basic needs, like feeding or dressing ones self
the patient then must be evaluated by two (2) psychiatrists
THEN two (2) psychiartrists must go before a judge outlining their concerns and giving their statements about their evaluations of the patient. Then it is up to the judge to decide whether or not to issue a court order remanding the patient to be committed for up to 14 days and then the patient is evaluated again and their attorney along with psychiartrists must go before a judge again to determine if the patient can be released.
So, obviously Britney is dressing and feeding herself, so that element has not been met and without meeting that element it will be difficult to commit her against her will.
Maybe they are prepping her to marry Bin Laden. She sure seems to be hanging out with middle-eastern types of late - maybe she's after the Big Raghead himself. - lawyers advise her to NOT come to the courthouse
- lawyers get agreement with Brit to PUBLICIZE the fact that they've advised her she doesn't need to come to the courthouse
