R.I.P.
After 12 years on Broadway, one of the most influential musicals of the '90s, Rent, is closing.
The last show will be June 1st.
Sad.
It'd be awesome if the original cast members came back for the final performance though.

AHH I LOVE TAYE DIGGS SEXIEST MAN ON EARTH EY EY????
Going to bring my 12 year old for the 3rd time in Feb…….so glad I didn't over ride her request and get tickets to another show….hey maybe now we'll see some great community theater productions of it popping up and making it more affordable and accessible for people who don't venture out to Broadway….Best of Luck to the cast We LOVE Justin Johnson as Angel!!!!!
Re: NYHEART13 –
We saw it in September too when the boys were back and it was absolutely ELECTRIC!!!! Anthony is sooo sweet> He signed my daughters musical score, and was so great with the crazy, swarming crowd
perez this is one of the saddest days of my life. being bisexual, this show taught me so much about myself and i dont think id still be alive without it. Thank you for recognizing this repectfully. I feel empty inside
I saw RENT 3 times it an amazing show…That would be cool if the original cast comes back..the original MImi is GR8
RENT is the best musical i've seen. Its very sad is going to end.
this is sooooo sad!..i love Rent..it changed my life..
as someone who has lived and died by the soundtrack…this is one of the most disheartening things i have heard in awhile, RIP
Everyone has AIDS!
AIDS AIDS AIDS!
AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS!
Everyone has AIDS!
And so this is the end of our story
And everyone is dead from AIDS
It took from me my best friend
My only true pal
My only bright star (he died of AIDS)
Well I'm gonna march on Washington
Lead the fight and charge the brigades
There's a hero inside of all of us
I'll make them see everyone has AIDS!!!
Carrie…The musical is much better than the movie I really love it!!!… the movie is like an snooze-fest to me…
I fucking hated that show. It was so fucking shity and long.
That is sad! I saw the show in L.A. and it was amazing…sad I will never be able to see it in NY!
Rent is my favorite musical! It will live on…
Are you kiddin' me? It was there for 12 years? That show sucked balls! It was noisy and loud and not in that good way noisy. The only thing I got outta that show when it was over was a big fuckin' pounding headache. I can't even remember what the story was about. Good riddance. Find a show that's actually entertaining.
Good riddance! Critics salivated about this crappy play somehow an accurate representation of Gex X.
Wow. I can't believe it's ending! RENT seriously changed my life. It is such an amazing and movie show.
THIS IS A FANTASTIC SHOW. RUN TO SEE IT IF YOU CAN! I SAW WITH ORIGINAL CAST AND IT ROCKED MY WORLD!
wtf no no no no no no no no.
why?
oh no! this truly saddens me. i love RENT. saw the show, saw the movie, loved the soundtrack, etc. it did well during it's run. hopefully i can squeeze one more show in…
*depressed*
…i love this musical.
thats sad to hear.
so sad.
too bad you couldn't actually get a picture of the broadway cast! ANY broadway cast! geez…
pathetic, perez!
My heart is officially broken.
Why are you posting a photo from the movie cast instead of the Broadway cast. That's fucked up.
Re: sam – Re: sam –
NO it isn't. It's closing sooner in the West End than it is on Broadway. I don't know where you get your info from but the revival of RENT in the West End was a huge failure!!
Sigh, a sad day indeed
Honestly, one of the worst shows/movies I've ever seen. Here's a concept for them - in order to pay their "Rent" they should probably GET JOBS!!!! And, oh, I don't know, maybe stop feeling sorry for themselves? Oy.
That sucks! I saw it a few years ago. It was a great play!
I CANT BELIEVE THAT SKANK IS SO STUPID
Aw, that's sad.
It -would- be great if the original cast member came back..except for that chick who played Mimi! She could NOT sing forshit. SO unfortunate. Plus she's wayyy too old now.
Thank you, Jonathan Larson!!
good riddance, that show was overrated.
WHAT?!?!?!? NO! FUCK NO!!! TODAY MUST BE THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE. EVERYTHING IS ENDING AROUND ME!!! WHAT THE FUCK! PEREZ PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE KIDDING!!!
Perez…if you're going to say how great it would be to have the ORIGINAL cast come back for final performances…how about posting a poster of the ORIGINAL cast…not one from the movie…
no!! Fuck that's awful.
It Would be Awesome if the picture you had was the ORIGINAL cast.
NOOOOOO
WHYYYYYY
NOOO
its sad tha i will never be able to see it live
im sad now
GOD I hated that show. I'd rather listen to the sounds of a slaughterhouse for two and a half hours than have to endure RENT again.
I am sad that the show is closing, but glad that it is going out before it completelly dies. I enjoyed the music and the amazing talent I found because of it. Declan Bennett, Harley Jay, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Idina, Jesse, and many more! Everyone should go out and see it one more time. I know I am planning the trip for myself and some friends.
RENT. This is sad, sad news.
P.S. That picture is of the MOVIE cast- which sucks. LA VIE BOHEME!
That sucks. By the way that picture isn't the original cast. That's the films cast, which has two different people
thank god
first
noooo. =( RENT is my favorite musical of all time. i'm just glad i got to see it in the nederlander before it's gone.
NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! I won't believe it. No.
the movie was terrible, but the musical is AMAZING. if you have never seen it before make sure you get a chance to go before it closes. i'm very very very saddened by this but it had to go at some point. kudos to it for being on for so long!!!
Ok, who cares if ticket sales are down? There's a whole new generation (i.e. MINE!!) that is just dieing to see this show live, on Broadway. Since the movie the popularity has gone up so much, and once my age group grows up, we're not going to be able to see our favorite story in it's true form. If any one agrees, please state it.
Hey Perez, you could have at least posted a picture of the original cast.
That really sucks!! I never got to see it when I was down in the states….
This is so sad. Rent defines me in so many ways. It was such a revolution in the musical theater industry. It will truly be missed.
nooo! that musical was such an inspiration with it's lyrics. I was listening to it last night lol. Bring it back!
Will def be there that night for sure! RENT is my favorite and I am so sad to see it go.
hey fatass, that pic you have up is from the movie…so if you want the 'original cast' back for the final performance, you may want to find a picture of the original cast and not the movie cast.
Rosario Dawson ≠ Daphne Rubin Vega
RENT was kinda like my life…I loved the movie/play. It was a play about life, and how you should live it NO DAY BUT TODAY.
I will miss everything ABOUT this show.
:[
At least use a picture from the show, not the movie!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
So bad. Last time i went to NYC, which is not a jump for me who live in Italy, i watched THE BEAUTY & THE BEAST…so am i ever gonna see RENT…
i gotta plan a trip!
MIK
THIS IS TERRIBLE. THIS IS MY FAVORITE MUSICAL EVER EVER EVER. THIS IS SOO DEPRESSING
most amazing musical ever….i always wanted to see it on broadway too. oh well, im seeing it in march in toronto!
First.
That makes me so sad. I love that play. It was one of the most influential shows of our time, bringing reality to our world about what's really going on in our neigborhoods and friend's lives. I will be so sad that I never got to see it on Broadway, but seeing in the ATL was just as good. The spirit and memories (and soundtrack!!!) live on.
RIP RENT!!!!!!
This is, quite simply, the most amazing musical ever! While I've never seen it in NY (I've seen it 9 times touring), I always said I'd go to NYC & see it one day. Well, like they say…"No Day But Today"…so I just went online & purchased 2 tickets for the LAST show at 7pm on June 1st. I SO can't wait!
Oh, thank God. I mean, I've always suspected that Jonathan Larson himself was embarassed to death by this half-baked, outdated, faux-edgy dreck…the world's a better place without it, kids. Honest.
How come you can still buy tickets for the June 2nd show?
this was actually one of the WORST musicals ever. It was boring, i didn't enjoy it, was NOT influential. A good musical would be Spring Awakening, you stupid fat pig perez
RE:ursaminorjim
You're a real fuckin' moron, dude! Jonathan Larson died before the show ever made it to broadway. He left a huge legacy and garnered millions of fans.
Way to show respect for the dead, asswipe.
i was just on the potty reading about this in the Times and i thought the same thing… it would be great for the cast to come back for the final performance. Tamyara Grey can sit next to me in the audience
I am going in March, thank God!!! I can't believe they are closing it. I am so glad I get to see it before that though!! It makes me so sad!!
i love the movie and the soundtrack!!!! i hate the fact its going to end!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY INTENSE SHOW…MAYBE TOO INTENSE…I CAN ONLY WATCH MY DVD OF IT ONCE A YEAR…..AS A GAY GUY IT HITS HOME TOO MUCH
