Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee wants to change the constitution.
Why?
Because "God" is not happy with it.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
Huckabee also wants to amend the Constitution to prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens - a radical step no other major presidential candidate has embraced.

First off, what ever happened to separation of church and state? That will go completely out of the window if the Constitution itself is written based on "God's" standards. Second, this country at least tries to pretend there is freedom of religion. Is that part of the Constitution also not important? Regardless of my perceptions about former Governor Huckabee, I agree with him on this particular issue. If somebody is here in this country ILLEGALLY, then their children who were born from ILLEGAL parents should not automatically become American citizens. Even if you don't believe that illegals should be deported immediately, it is completely illogical to allow the children of illegals to be naturalized.

Does he realize that the founding fathers were made up of men who were free thinkers and were quite specific in outlining a clear separation of church and state based on the horrors that were taking place in Europe in the name of religion at that time (and had been for centuries)? I personally don't see ANYTHING wrong with his stance on illegal immigration. Especially if their parents aren't paying for public education, taxes or making any legal contribution the country they are living in.
I don't know about his other ideas, but this restriction of citizenship is actually a semi-good idea. I think part of the reason adults who come here illegally don't bother applying for citizenship is because they know that they could just have a baby here and even if they got caught (a longshot anyway), the fact that their child is legal would probably keep them from being deported.
The number of illegal immigrants is starting to become a huge problem in this country, and it might take a radical move like this to efficiently deal with the problem.
