Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee wants to change the constitution.
Why?
Because "God" is not happy with it.
For real!
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
Huckabee also wants to amend the Constitution to prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens - a radical step no other major presidential candidate has embraced.

You have the right to your own opinion and I respect you for it. I just do not think that you and most of your readers realize what will happen if Obama or Romney become our next President. I can't believe I am hearing that so many people think it is okay to allow the children of illegal imigrants to become citizens because they were born here. Um, since when does the US Constitution represent a "contemporary view"? The Constitition was created for the purpose of restricting government powers and protecting the rights of citizens, not to limit the rights of citizens based on the majority religion. 1) I am the child of MEXICAN illegal immigrants and I am so happy that I was granted U.S. citizenship when I was born in the U.S. I am American and proud of it. I am also very proud of my Mexican heritage.
2) I am not or have ever been on welfare/foodstamps/whatever. I graduated high school, went to college and now I am in graduate school at an Ivy league university. I have met many U.S. citizens that are children of illegal immigrants that contribute to this society.
3) A great portion of OUR U.S. TROOPS are children of illegal immigrants. They were born here, given citizenship and they are now giving there lives for America. Do the research.
4) I support immigration reform. Start with the corporations that hire illegal immigrants at low wages instead of U.S. citizens at the required minimum wage. Big Corporations provide jobs to illegal immigrants thus immigrants come to America to get a job. If there were no jobs immigrants would not come to the U.S.
5) Illegal immigrants are people too. Many try to dehumanize and talk about them as objects. Are they only human when they are in their native country?

I think the real joke is that perez thinks he is smart enough to understand politics. I would love to know what makes him a credible political outlet. It's rewarding people who don't pay any taxes in this country by giving them a child with citizenship, a child that will probably end up draining tax dollars in the welfare program.

Many of the illegal immigrants I know would LOVE TO SPEAK ENGLISH. They take classes to learn english whenever they can (if time permits from work). I know many immigrants that don't speak english becaus ethey are embarrassed of their accents. It's the same if you were to learn french, go to france, and speak french with a heavy American accent. How do the french react? I'm sure the same way americans do when an immigrant tries to ask for something in english.
As for your situation in TX, well, you are near the border. What do you expect. Mexicans were in the U.S. when the Guadalupe Treaty was signed. Drawing a line on a map is not going to throw them out. The blame is on the U.S. for not enforcing border control efficiently enough.
By the way, I grew up in Los Angeles, went to high school where the majority of the students were Mexican-american. I learned french. Maybe you should demand more from your school system and not blame the students of latino descent. They already now spanish. They don't want to take it either.

I see. Then I think you would have to agree that the problem is that knowing spanish is necessary to get a job in regions of the U.S. with a high latino poulation. This would help serve individuals that don't speak english well.
One part of the solution to this BIG problem would be to have English classes that are more accessible to non-native speakers (illegal or legal). Also to make it mandatory that immigrants applying for citizenship/residency/etc. learn english. If you want English to be the main language of the U.S. then it has to be taught.

Also, the Constitution allowed slavery until the end of the Civil War (the thirteenth amendment). In the south, it is the DEMOCRATIC party that supported the separation of whites and blacks. It was the DEMOCRATIC party that supported the Klan. So after you sign up for grammar class, sign up for a civics and history class. Stupid. The constitution has been amended many times. It is a document that the founding fathers crafted so that it could be altered as times changed. The first ten amendments are our Bill of Rights. Ever heard of those changes?
